What they need
Role Overview
The Human Resources Manager is a strategic, people-first leader responsible for building and sustaining a high-performance, values-driven workplace. This role goes far beyond traditional HR administration and requires strong judgment, ownership, adaptability, and the ability to scale people systems in a fast-moving, multi-discipline environment.
The ideal candidate is confident operating independently, thrives in ambiguity, and naturally steps into a leadership role. They are trusted by executives and employees alike, balancing compliance with culture, and structure with empathy.
Core Responsibilities
Strategic HR Leadership
- Act as a trusted advisor to ownership and leadership on people strategy, organizational health, and workforce planning
- Translate company mission, values, and culture into practical HR programs and daily behaviors
- Identify people risks early and proactively recommend solutions
- Lead change management initiatives as the company grows or evolves
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Own full-cycle recruiting for all roles across multiple business units
- Partner with leadership to define roles, career paths, and succession planning
- Continuously improve hiring processes, interview tools, and candidate experience
- Ensure hiring decisions align with long-term organizational needs — not just immediate gaps
Employee Relations & Performance Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee concerns, conflicts, and sensitive matters
- Coach managers through difficult conversations, corrective action, and performance improvement
- Oversee annual review cycles, goal-setting frameworks, and compensation discussions
- Ensure decisions are fair, consistent, well-documented, and legally sound
Training, Development & Culture
- Own and continuously improve internal training systems (including Trainual or similar platforms)
- Design onboarding experiences that set employees up for long-term success
- Support leadership development and upskilling initiatives
- Champion company culture through recognition programs, internal communications, and engagement efforts
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with federal, state (Texas), and local employment laws
- Maintain employee records, policies, and handbooks
- Manage workers’ compensation, leave administration and investigations
- Act swiftly and thoughtfully in high-risk or sensitive HR situations
HR Operations & Systems
- Process weekly payroll, manage benefits administration and broker relationships
- Oversee IT coordination for employee onboarding/offboarding (equipment, access, permissions) and manage IT renewals.
- Track HR metrics and provide insights to leadership (turnover, engagement, training, etc.)
- Continuously improve processes for efficiency, clarity, and scalability
Employee Experience & Engagement
- Coordinate company events, recognition programs, and milestone celebrations
- Lead philanthropic or community engagement initiatives tied to company values
- Serve as a culture carrier — modeling professionalism, empathy, accountability, and integrity
What Success Looks Like in This Role
- Leaders trust HR judgment and seek input early, not just after problems arise
- Employees feel supported, informed, and held to clear expectations
- Managers are better equipped to lead because HR coaches rather than polices
- HR systems are organized, documented, and scalable
- Culture is intentional, not accidental
Ideal Candidate Profile
Experience & Skills
- 5+ years of progressive HR experience (generalist or manager level)
- Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR best practices
- Proven ability to operate independently and manage competing priorities
- Comfortable supporting both professional and field-based employees
- Experience in engineering, construction, or multi-discipline environments is a plus
- Experience with ADP and Quickbooks preferred.
Behavioral Traits
- Natural leader who takes ownership and initiative
- Confident decision-maker with strong judgment
- Adaptable, resourceful, and comfortable with ambiguity
- Direct, thoughtful communicator — able to handle tough conversations with empathy
- Systems-minded but people-first
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree required (HR, Business, or related field preferred)
- SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar certification strongly preferred
Why This Role Is Different
This is not a “check the box” HR position. This role has real influence, real responsibility, and real trust. The right person will help shape the future of the organization not just maintain it.
