What they need

About the Role

We are a growing hydraulic engineering company specialising in the repair, refurbishment, manufacture and testing of hydraulic cylinders and associated hydraulic equipment.

We are looking for a practical, motivated and mechanically minded individual to join our team in a progressive role, developing from hands-on cylinder repair and workshop duties into greater technical, diagnostic and customer-facing responsibilities.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in hydraulics, mechanical engineering, plant maintenance, agricultural machinery, heavy equipment or a similar environment who is looking to develop their career within a specialist hydraulic engineering business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strip, inspect and assess hydraulic cylinders for damage, wear and failure.
  • Identify faults and determine appropriate repair or refurbishment requirements.
  • Replace seals, bearings, bushes, rods, pistons and other hydraulic components.
  • Carry out cylinder reassembly and ensure components are correctly fitted.
  • Operate workshop machinery including lathes, milling machines, presses and associated equipment where required.
  • Carry out basic machining, polishing, honing and component preparation.
  • Manufacture or modify cylinder components to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Pressure-test and function-test completed hydraulic cylinders.
  • Diagnose hydraulic and mechanical faults and recommend suitable solutions.
  • Measure components accurately using appropriate inspection and measuring equipment.
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship, quality and workshop safety.
  • Complete job sheets, inspection records and repair documentation.
  • Liaise with customers and colleagues to understand equipment faults and repair requirements.
  • Assist with quotations and technical assessments as experience develops.
  • Support the collection, delivery and installation of hydraulic equipment when required.

Career Progression

This position offers a genuine opportunity to develop within the business.

The successful candidate will initially focus on hydraulic cylinder repair and workshop engineering.

As skills and experience develop, responsibilities may include, machining and cylinder manufacture, customer liaison and job management.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Mechanically minded and enjoys practical engineering.
  • Comfortable working with tools, machinery and hydraulic equipment.
  • Confident using measuring equipment such as verniers, micrometers and gauges.
  • Methodical and quality-conscious.
  • A good problem solver with a willingness to investigate faults.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a small engineering team.
  • Reliable, organised and committed to completing work to a high standard.
  • Keen to learn new skills and progress within the company.

Previous experience with hydraulic cylinders, hydraulics, heavy plant, agricultural machinery, mechanical engineering, welding, machining or industrial maintenance would be advantageous, although training can be provided for the right candidate.

The Opportunity

This is more than a standard workshop position. We are looking for someone who wants to build a career in hydraulic engineering, gain specialist knowledge and progressively take on more responsibility.

You will gain experience across cylinder repair, hydraulic fault finding, machining, refurbishment, testing and customer support, with progression determined by ability, experience and commitment.
