Job description:
ANDRITZ Canada offers an ideal environment for career development, where talent and the completion of major projects contribute every day to the growth of our company.

As the first equipment manufacturer in Canada and a world leader in the design of hydroelectric turbines and generators, ANDRITZ Canada has more than 185 years of know-how.

In a context of energy transition, our hydroelectric innovation projects make sense. From design to construction, our innovative team of experts offers turnkey solutions. By joining ANDRITZ Canada, you are contributing to the development of sustainable technology, a clean future, and the maintenance of a proud Canadian's expertise.

From water to wire – Be part of the movement!

Ready to put your hydraulic expertise at the heart of major hydropower projects? In this strategic role, you will influence technical solutions from the proposal stage and tackle a variety of challenges alongside recognized specialists in engineering, design, and testing. Join a collaborative team where your ideas, judgement, and experience will directly contribute to shaping sustainable, high-performing, and competitive solutions.

The following responsibilities form the core of this role in our Canadian team.

  • Analyze customer specifications, drawings, and requirements to define tailored, differentiated, and competitive hydraulic solutions.
  • Develop and optimize preliminary solutions with the hydraulic design and turbine and generator mechanical engineering teams, ensuring technical consistency, feasibility, and performance.
  • Perform the required analyses and calculations, including turbine performance, hydraulic transients, axial hydraulic thrust, and the selection and sizing of labyrinth seals.
  • Identify and manage hydraulic risks, and propose practical, innovative solutions aligned with proposal objectives.
  • Prepare hydraulic proposals, technical data sheets, and clear, compelling reports tailored to customer needs.
  • Participate in technical discussions with customers and apply your expertise to strengthen the quality and competitiveness of our proposals.

Why do you fit the profile?

Successful teams share objectives, but also values! Beyond your skills, we are looking for someone who is motivated, positive, and ready to invest in the team. Your commitment to ethics and quality will make a real difference at ANDRITZ.

The ideal candidate should be willing to work in a complex, fast-paced environment, with evolving priorities. Result and solution-oriented candidates who follow through with ideas and commitments will perform well within ANDRITZ. As our projects have large scopes and often require years to be completed, your perseverance will be valued with us.

Technical expertise and engineering judgement:

  • Strong analytical skills and engineering judgement to develop high-performing, competitive hydraulic solutions with well-managed risks.
  • Creativity and initiative to solve complex hydraulic problems and clearly communicate technical choices and trade-offs.
  • Ability to provide credible technical influence within proposal teams and among stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of hydraulic design principles, turbine mechanics, and fluid dynamics.

Interpersonal and collaboration skills:

  • Clear communication in English and French, with the ability to adapt technical messages for teams, commercial partners, and customers.
  • Knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese (an asset).
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and exercise technical influence through listening, credibility, and sound judgement.
  • Initiative, curiosity, openness to knowledge sharing, and a focus on collective success.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or another engineering discipline relevant to the role.
  • At least three years of relevant hydropower experience, including hydraulic design or testing, turbine mechanics, project engineering, or technical sales (an asset).
  • Proficiency with hydraulic analysis and calculation tools, as well as Microsoft Office.
  • Availability for occasional travel related to projects and customer meetings.

What do we offer

  • Life, disability, dental and extended health insurance;
  • Pension plan;
  • Hybrid work mode;
  • Performance share plan;
  • Employee assistance program;
  • Employee individualized training and career plan.
