What they need

About Us

Kiloh Associates is a leading civil engineering and construction design consultancy delivering high-quality temporary works and structural solutions across the UK. We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Hydrology Associate to join our multidisciplinary team to support our expanding portfolio of work.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced hydrology Specialist to join our growing environmental teams at Kiloh Associates. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong professional who is looking to take a leading role in delivering high-quality environmental/engineering consultancy across a diverse portfolio of projects.

You will work with clients, regulators, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams, providing expert advice on a range of hydrology, hydrogeology, and water environment issues. The role will involve a combination of technical delivery, project management, client development and mentoring of less experienced colleagues.

Our projects span sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure, development, utilities and natural capital , providing the opportunity to work on varied and challenging environmental projects throughout Scotland and the wider UK.

Key responsibilities

  • Mentor and develop junior hydrologists, fostering technical excellence and knowledge sharing.
  • Act as technical lead on major frameworks and multidisciplinary projects across transport, energy, water, and development sectors.
  • Lead hydrological assessments to support flood risk appraisals, infrastructure design, catchment strategies, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Provide technical direction on rainfall-runoff modelling, river flow estimation, climate change allowances, and catchment analysis.
  • Oversee and review hydrological modelling outputs, ensuring quality, accuracy, and compliance with UK regulatory guidance.
  • Advise clients on flood risk policy, drainage strategy, abstraction licensing, and environmental permitting requirements.
  • Support business development.

About you

We are seeking an experienced consultant with a strong technical background in hydrology, hydrogeology and/or a closely related environmental discipline .

We recognise that great candidates do not always meet every criterion listed below. If your experience is closely aligned with the role and you believe you could make a positive contribution to the team, we would encourage you to apply:

  • A relevant degree in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Geology or a related subject.
  • Relevant professional experience within environmental consultancy or a similar technical environment, with experience operating at senior or Principal level, or readiness to take that next step.
  • Strong knowledge of the Scottish water environment and relevant planning and environmental legislation.
  • Experience undertaking hydrological and/or hydrogeological assessments and environmental impact assessments.
  • Experience of working with regulators such as SEPA and other relevant Scottish stakeholders.
  • Strong technical report-writing and communication skills.
  • Experience managing projects and providing technical leadership.
  • The ability to develop trusted relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • A proactive, commercially aware and solutions-focused approach.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites where required.

Membership of a relevant professional body, such as CIWEM, Geological Society or a similar organisation , and/or chartership would be advantageous.

Why join us?

This role offers the opportunity to join a supportive and growing consultancy where you can combine technical excellence with genuine career progression within a friendly supportive team . You will have the autonomy to lead projects and develop client relationships while working alongside experienced environmental professionals across multiple disciplines.

We offer:

  • A competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
  • A varied portfolio of technically interesting projects across Scotland and the UK.
  • Opportunities for professional development and chartership.
  • A collaborative, supportive working environment.
  • The opportunity to influence and grow our and your hydrology and hydrogeology capability.
  • A clear pathway for progression into technical, project management and senior leadership roles.

If you are an experienced water resource professional looking for a Principal-level opportunity where you can make a real contribution to both project delivery and the continued growth of an environmental consultancy, we would be keen to hear from you.
