Job Advert

We are seeking an experienced and initiative-taking ICT Network Manager with a passion for technology, to develop, secure and manage the infrastructure that underpins life across the Whole School.

Working within the ICT department, you will take responsibility for the effective management, maintenance and continual improvement of the school’s network infrastructure and associated systems. You will resolve complex second- and third-line issues, implement technical projects that support colleagues across the school, and contribute to an exceptional, progressive, and inclusive learning experience that reflects the Bedales ethos.

This is a varied technical role with the opportunity to influence infrastructure, cyber security, service improvement and the day-to-day digital experience of students and staff.

Bedales School is a unique educational establishment, set in the beautiful Hampshire countryside. Our aim is to create an environment where questioning, divergent thinking, and freedom to learn from mistakes are all encouraged. Central to our success is the sense that each person is a member of our community whose voice is entitled to be heard and treated with respect. Both our staff and students expect of each other the best kind of relationships – co-operative, authentic and trustful.

Experience & Background

We are looking for a Network Manager who can combine strong technical expertise with sound judgement, excellent customer service, and clear communication. You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Substantial experience in a senior ICT technician role or a comparable 2nd or 3rd line position.
  • Strong knowledge of networking and technical standards, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, wireless, LAN, and WAN environments.
  • Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualisation, storage, backup systems, and back-end infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365 and associated Microsoft cloud services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Intune, Azure, or Microsoft Entra.
  • Experience maintaining devices, applications, and services across a managed environment.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell and experience with another scripting language, such as Python.
  • A logical and methodical approach to diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues.
  • The ability to explain technical matters clearly to non-technical users and provide exemplary customer experience.
  • Experience mentoring, training, or supporting the development of ICT colleagues.
  • A clear commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality, equality, and the welfare of children.
  • Experience within an educational environment, Apple device management, Hyper-V, Veeam, Jamf, Linux, audio-visual systems or CCTV would be advantageous

Duties

  • Managing and maintaining the school’s network, switches, server, storage, wireless, firewall, backup, printing, CCTV, audio-visual and data-centre infrastructure.
  • Administering and improving cloud-based and on-premises systems, including Microsoft 365, device management, security platforms, and departmental applications.
  • Maintaining effective cyber security controls and remaining informed about emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practice.
  • Providing high-quality second- and third-line technical support, with first-line support when required.
  • Monitoring system performance, capacity, availability and security, and taking appropriate action to maintain reliable services.
  • Identifying and delivering technology improvements from requirements gathering and supplier engagement through implementation and completion.
  • Maintaining accurate technical documentation, asset information, procedures, and ICT records.
  • Mentoring technicians and apprentices, sharing knowledge and helping colleagues develop their technical capability.
  • Working collaboratively with departments and cross-school teams while supporting compliance with policy, legislation, regulation and recognised best practice.
  • Following all safeguarding policies and reporting concerns promptly and appropriately.
