What they need

Purpose

To lead and manage The First Step's IDVA service, providing strategic and operational leadership that delivers a high-quality, trauma-informed, risk-led service to victims/survivors of domestic and sexual abuse at highest risk. To supervise and support the IDVA Team, ensuring consistent, safe and effective practice across the service. To work within a multi-agency framework, including MARAC and local partnership responses to domestic abuse. This is a management post and does not carry a client caseload, however, there may be times that the manager would be required to support with direct case management.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES

Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide overall leadership and day-to-day management of the IDVA service, ensuring a consistent, high-quality, trauma-informed service to survivors.
  • Provide line management and regular reflective case reviews and supervision to the IDVA staffing team.
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of staff, delivering a high-quality frontline service and keeping victims of domestic abuse central to all processes.
  • Support staff development through coaching, mentoring, and identifying learning, development and performance management needs.
  • Promote a culture of empowerment, accountability and continuous learning within the team.
  • Hold regular team meetings, encourage participation and promote staff development through training opportunities.
  • Be involved in the recruitment, selection, induction and retention of all staff reporting directly to the post, in line with the TFS Safer Recruitment Policy.
  • Manage the induction of new staff.

Service Delivery & Case Oversight

  • Ensure consistent delivery of services to survivors, risk assessment, safety planning and referrals to other agencies and MARAC, by allocating and monitoring work across the team.
  • Monitor and review risk assessments, ensuring compliance with internal policy and that identified support needs are actioned.
  • Conduct monthly case audits for cases open to the service and six-weekly case reviews with staff.
  • Be the lead professional within the IDVA service for all safeguarding and information-sharing, ensuring staff understand and comply with the service's safeguarding framework.
  • Ensure case files and records are accurate, complete and compliant with data protection legislation.
  • Ensure clients are being kept informed about actions/support offered by MARAC and the IDVA service, and that other relevant agencies are kept informed of important changes to a client's situation and risk assessment.
  • Support the empowerment of survivors, ensuring the service helps them recognise the dynamics of abuse present in their situation and regain control of their lives.

Safeguarding & Risk Management

  • Lead on safeguarding concerns arising within the service, supporting staff with decision-making and threshold guidance.
  • Act as the point of contact for urgent safeguarding queries and professional challenge.
  • Ensure timely recording and reporting of safeguarding incidents and outcomes in line with statutory responsibilities and The First Step's procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the legal framework relating to the protection of children and vulnerable/safeguarding adults, including the policies and procedures of the Local Safeguarding Children and Adults Boards including safeguarding training.
  • Ensure the IDVA team are up to date with safeguarding training and continuous development in line with changes to legislation and local processes.
