Location: Remote (North America Travel Required) Travel: Approximately 50-60% Employment Type: Full-Time

Join a Team Delivering Advanced SCADA Solutions Across Critical Infrastructure Environments

We're partnering with a rapidly growing automation and systems integration organization that is seeking a Field SCADA Engineer to support the deployment, validation, commissioning, and startup of Ignition SCADA solutions across complex, high-availability facilities throughout North America.

This is a highly visible, client-facing role where you'll play a key part in bringing sophisticated automation systems online, ensuring performance requirements are met, and supporting customers through successful project delivery.

If you enjoy travel, hands-on engineering work, troubleshooting complex systems, and seeing projects progress from implementation through final turnover, this could be an outstanding opportunity.

About the Role

As a Field SCADA Engineer, you'll serve as the bridge between engineering teams and end users, providing onsite technical expertise throughout commissioning and startup activities.

You'll work with Ignition SCADA platforms, PLC-based control systems, BMS and EPMS solutions, industrial networks, and mission-critical infrastructure to ensure systems are delivered, tested, and operating as designed.

This position offers a blend of technical problem-solving, field engineering, customer interaction, and project delivery responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will have experience with:

  • Ignition SCADA
  • Ignition Perspective
  • SCADA commissioning
  • BMS and EPMS systems
  • Industrial automation
  • PLC integration
  • Startup and commissioning activities
  • Troubleshooting live control systems
  • Customer-facing engineering support
  • Data center or critical infrastructure environments

What You'll Be Doing

SCADA Deployment & Commissioning

You'll take ownership of onsite commissioning and system deployment activities across various automation and controls projects.

Responsibilities include:

  • Deploying and commissioning Ignition SCADA solutions.
  • Supporting startup, site acceptance, and turnover activities.
  • Performing point-to-point verification of system components.
  • Validating graphics, dashboards, alarm management systems, and trending functionality.
  • Testing HMI and visualization platforms in live operating environments.
  • Working alongside commissioning teams to verify operational performance.
  • Supporting integrated systems testing and functional performance validation.
  • Ensuring deployed systems align with project requirements and design intent.

System Validation & Testing

You'll be responsible for ensuring systems perform reliably and accurately before final customer acceptance.

This includes:

  • Conducting User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Validating alarm functionality and event reporting.
  • Testing trend collection and historical data storage.
  • Verifying communication between SCADA, PLCs, databases, historians, and third-party platforms.
  • Confirming system performance across desktop, tablet, and mobile interfaces.
  • Troubleshooting communication, interface, and display issues.
  • Identifying and resolving software and integration challenges.
  • Supporting issue resolution during critical commissioning periods.

Customer Support & Technical Leadership

A significant part of this position involves working directly with customers and project stakeholders.

You'll:

  • Provide onsite support during startup and go-live activities.
  • Assist customers through commissioning and acceptance procedures.
  • Demonstrate platform functionality and system capabilities.
  • Deliver operator and end-user training.
  • Act as a trusted technical resource throughout project delivery.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to resolve field issues.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and project teams.
  • Ensure a positive transition from project implementation to operational use.

Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution

You'll regularly support complex technical issues in operational environments.

Responsibilities include:

  • Diagnosing SCADA communication issues.
  • Investigating integration challenges between multiple systems.
  • Supporting PLC and network troubleshooting efforts.
  • Resolving visualization and user interface concerns.
  • Analyzing performance trends to identify root causes.
  • Working with development teams to implement corrective actions.

You'll be expected to:

  • Document commissioning activities and validation procedures.
  • Record field modifications and project changes.
  • Create and maintain commissioning reports.
  • Generate punch lists and monitor issue resolution.
  • Support turnover packages and project closeout documentation.
  • Maintain as-built records and testing results.
