Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Image Quality Engineer to evaluate, optimize, and enhance camera imaging performance across various devices and platforms. The ideal candidate will have expertise in image processing, camera systems, computational photography, and image quality analysis. This role involves working closely with hardware, software, ISP (Image Signal Processor), algorithm, and product teams to deliver superior imaging experiences.

Responsibilities: -

• Conduct studies on camera hardware and software prototypes to critically examine camera image quality –
• Test in the lab and in the field (requiring short trips to test locations), capturing image quality datasets for camera development. –
• Analyse camera output and provide feedback to feature development (hardware, ISP, algorithm design, and tuning) with cross-functional business partners. –
• File bugs, create reports, and presentations on image quality development.

Minimum Qualifications: -

• Experience using professional photography equipment or familiarity with operating equipment in an imaging lab. –
• Experience in analysing camera image quality test results. –
• Ability to identify, reproduce, and isolate image quality bugs via visual analysis. –
• Deep care for the final user experience regarding photography and videography features. –
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. –
• Excellent problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications: -

• Bachelor’s degree in photography, Imaging Science, Vision Science, Color Science, or related fields. –
• Ability to design effective test methodologies to answer complex questions. –
• Understanding of overall system interactions in the image pipeline and their impact on image quality. –
• Experience with using VR headsets –
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: retouching, photography, videography, imaging lab design and setup, software QA process. –
• Experience with shipping consumer electronics products

Typical consultants can be:

1. Someone with direct experience in testing camera image quality and field testing for consumer cameras (check past work experience)
2. Graduate with degrees from photography, imaging science, vision science or color science (e.g. RIT graduate in those majors, photography related degrees with more focused on technical aspect of cameras)
3. An amateur camera enthusiast with good fundamental science training (Someone has good fundamental of science, analytics and problem solving skills, but with a high passion in photography: majors such as psychology, economics, bio science, social science, design, architecture but with experience participating photography club, photography forum or photography related social media account).
4. A professional photographer with deep understanding of camera gear and likes the technical aspect of cameras (e.g. knows camera specs well and knows the technical pros and cons of their own camera gear)
5. AR VR headset enthusiast who has used passthrough or mix reality camera a lot

Pay and Benefits

• Pay Range Minimum: $92000/annum
• Pay Range Maximum: $141000/annum

A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance-based bonuses subject to company policies.
