What they need

A small team, a growing business, and a role where you'll actually have ownership.

We’re looking for an experienced Import & Export Operations professional to join our team in Stockport.

We’re part of a well-established Portuguese freight forwarding group with around 1,400 employees worldwide and group turnover of approximately €150m. Our UK operation is much smaller — just six people, with around £6.5m turnover — and we’re continuing to grow.

So you get the best of both worlds: the backing of a large international group, with the feel of a small, close-knit UK business.

There are no layers of management, endless meetings or micromanagement. If you know your job, take responsibility and get on with it, you'll fit in well here.

The role

This is a genuine end-to-end freight forwarding role. You'll manage shipments from initial booking through to completion, making sure the customer is looked after, the paperwork is right and the file is closed properly.

Our main business is road and sea freight, covering:

  • Imports
  • Exports
  • Cross-trade
  • Customs
  • Occasional project cargo

You'll deal with customers, hauliers, shipping lines, overseas agents and suppliers, while working closely with our sales and accounts teams to keep everything moving and files accurate.

There’s plenty of variety, and we need someone who is comfortable getting involved across the whole operation rather than just focusing on one part of it.

Customs

We have an established in-house import/export customs clearing department, so you won't be expected to be a customs specialist.

However, you'll assist with customs duties, documentation and the day-to-day bits and pieces that come up, as well as providing cover when required.

Customer service matters

We’ve built the business on looking after our customers properly, and our customer retention reflects that.

We want someone who takes ownership. If a shipment is delayed, you find out why. If something goes wrong, you deal with it. If a customer needs an answer, you get one.

Good communication and a willingness to pick up the phone go a long way here.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for someone with solid freight forwarding experience who is:

  • Experienced — able to manage shipments without needing your hand held
  • Organised — comfortable with documentation, invoicing and deadlines
  • Customer-focused — genuinely cares about service
  • Adaptable — happy to work across different areas of the operation
  • Proactive — sees something that needs doing and gets on with it
  • A team player — we're only six people in the UK, so everyone helps everyone

Most importantly, you need to be comfortable with ownership and responsibility.

We trust people to manage their own work. No micromanagement, just get the job done properly.

What we offer

  • £27,500–£35,000 salary, depending on experience
  • Hybrid working — office and home
  • A genuinely casual and relaxed working environment
  • Real responsibility and ownership of your shipments
  • Company laptop and phone
  • Health insurance after successfully completing your 6-month probation
  • 20 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Your birthday off
  • The opportunity to grow with an expanding business
  • The security and international reach of a €150m+ global group, without feeling like you're working for a huge corporate

The bottom line

If you're an experienced freight forwarder who knows your stuff, likes having control over your own work, enjoys dealing with customers and wants to be part of a small team where everyone pulls together, we'd like to hear from you.

You'll own your shipments from start to finish.

Send us your CV and a little bit about yourself, and we'll take it from there.

Pay: £27,500.00-£35,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Company pension
  • Free parking
  • On-site parking
  • Private medical insurance
  • Sick pay

Experience:

  • freight forwarding: 2 years (required)
