Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate educator to join our team at JPS John R. Lewis Elementary as an In-School Tutorial Room Teacher. This full-time position involves providing individualized and small group instruction to students who require additional academic support. The ideal candidate will foster a positive learning environment, promote student engagement, and collaborate effectively with classroom teachers and parents to enhance student learning outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement personalized instructional plans for students in the tutorial room, focusing on their specific academic needs.
• Conduct assessments to identify students' strengths and areas for improvement, adjusting instructional strategies accordingly.
• Provide targeted support in core subjects, including reading, writing, and mathematics, to help students achieve grade-level proficiency.
• Create a welcoming and supportive classroom atmosphere that encourages student participation and builds confidence.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to align tutorial instruction with the curriculum and address any learning gaps.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding their child's development.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance instructional practices and stay updated on educational trends.
• Assist in the development and implementation of school-wide initiatives aimed at improving student achievement.
• Foster a culture of respect, responsibility, and resilience among students.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• Valid teaching certification in the state of Michigan.
• Proven experience working with elementary school students, preferably in a tutorial or support role.
• Strong understanding of diverse learning styles and effective instructional strategies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Ability to assess student performance and adapt teaching methods to meet individual needs.
• Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance learning experiences.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment for all students.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
