What they need

About Us The Sheffield College is a thriving further and higher education community, empowering around 13,000 learners each year to achieve their goals. Driven by our mission to transform lives through learning, we foster an inclusive environment — recognised through our 2026 Investors in Diversity Gold award and 3rd ‑ place ranking in the National Centre for Diversity’s 2025 Top 100 Most Inclusive UK Employers.

About The Role The Inclusive Learning Adviser will work primarily across Adult Learning, Apprenticeships and Higher Education to identify and reduce barriers to learning, participation, achievement and progression. Working directly with learners, the postholder will assess individual needs, identify appropriate reasonable adjustments and support, develop and review Individual Support Plans, and plan, deliver and evaluate targeted interventions that build skills, confidence and independence.

The postholder will work collaboratively with curriculum, teaching, assessment and delivery teams to embed inclusive practice within everyday teaching, learning and assessment. They will provide specialist advice, modelling and practical guidance to help colleagues understand and respond to diverse learner needs, develop inclusive curriculum and learning environments, and implement effective reasonable adjustments. Working across programmes, the Inclusive Learning Adviser will apply relevant statutory, regulatory and funding requirements and use evidence of learner experience, progress and outcomes to evaluate the impact of support and inform continuous improvement.

Main Responsibilities As an Inclusive Learning Adviser, you will work directly with learners and collaboratively with curriculum, teaching, assessment and delivery teams to identify and remove barriers to learning, strengthen inclusive practice and enable learners to participate, achieve and progress.

  • Assess individual learner needs, strengths and barriers to learning, working collaboratively with learners to identify appropriate reasonable adjustments, strategies, interventions and support.
  • Develop, implement and regularly review Individual Support Plans, ensuring learners are actively involved in decisions about their support and that agreed adjustments and strategies are clearly communicated to relevant colleagues.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate targeted interventions to address identified barriers and develop learners’ skills, confidence, independence and ability to engage successfully with learning.
  • Provide specialist advice, guidance and modelling to curriculum, teaching, assessment and delivery teams, supporting colleagues to understand diverse learner needs, implement reasonable adjustments and embed inclusive approaches within everyday teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Contribute to the development of inclusive curriculum and learning environments, including classroom, practical, workplace and digital contexts, working with colleagues to anticipate and remove barriers and improve accessibility, participation and learner experience.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of support, reasonable adjustments and interventions, using learner voice, progress and other relevant evidence to identify impact and adapt provision where required.
  • Identify when learners require further or specialist assessment, advice or referral, coordinating appropriate next steps and working with internal colleagues, employers, external professionals and other partners where required.
  • Support learners to understand and communicate their own strengths, needs and effective strategies, developing self-advocacy, independence and confidence in preparation for progression, employment and their next steps.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and appropriate records and evidence relating to assessment, support, interventions, reviews and outcomes, ensuring practice meets relevant statutory, regulatory, quality and funding requirements.
