What they need
Lead the design of products that land in millions of homes, taking one live project from first sketch to working prototype. This is design-led work on kitchenware, coolers and drinkware, where your visualisation and prototyping sit front and centre rather than buried under process.
The business is one of the most recognisable names in consumer products, with household brands found in millions of homes around the world. Its UK design studio sits at the heart of a fast-moving, globally connected business, with category teams covering everything from home environment products to brand new categories. The pace is quick, the structure is flat, and designers get real ownership of products that reach the shelf.
The role
You'll lead design on one live project, most likely in the kitchenware category, and support a second programme in coolers or drinkware alongside it. Day to day that means developing concepts through sketch work and 3D CAD in SolidWorks, iterating fast, and producing high-quality renders that create excitement around new ideas. You'll build and refine physical prototypes to bring concepts to life and pressure-test them, working fluidly across a mixed team of designers and engineers as the projects demand.
The categories are creative and design-led, so your craft sits front and centre. You get real ownership from the start, the autonomy to work your own way, and a genuine route to extension if the fit is right.
What you'll need
- A strong industrial or product design background, with the craft to make everyday products look and feel exceptional on the shelf.
- Excellent CAD skills, with SolidWorks as your main tool. Creo experience is a bonus.
- First-class visualisation and rendering, backed by a portfolio that shows you can create excitement around an idea before it exists.
- Confident, hands-on prototyping, with enough engineering understanding to keep your designs manufacturable without being engineering-first.
The details
- Reporting to the Category design lead, Kitchen and home team
- Lead one project, support a second
- Mixed team of designers and engineers
- SolidWorks primary, Creo a plus
- Initial 4 to 8 weeks, likely to extend
- Start: ASAP
- Outside IR35, deliverables based
- Products that reach millions of homes
- Autonomy to run your own work
What it isn't
This isn't a permanent seat. It's an initial 4 to 8 week contract to keep momentum on a busy slate of projects while the team covers planned leave, so you're carrying existing programmes forward rather than owning a category long term, even though an extension is likely. It isn't heavy engineering either. The emphasis is firmly on design craft, so if you want deep mechanism and DFM work this isn't it. And it's a fast, hands-on set-up with little hand-holding, so you need to self-start, get embedded quickly and stay closely connected to the team.
