Industrial Engineer - Distribution Center Efficiency Project

About the Company

At SBM Life Science, we are dedicated to the protection of home and garden. SBM Life Science is committed to reconnecting people with nature by offering innovative and responsible solutions and services to its customers and consumers for their plants, gardens, and living spaces. Our portfolio includes solutions for plant protection, lawn care, soil and seed treatment, plant food, and pest and mosquito control products to meet consumers’ needs to Nourish, Beautify, Maintain, and Defend.

SBM Life Science North America is headquartered in North Carolina, with a manufacturing facility in Pasadena, TX and a distribution center in Mont Belvieu, TX.

About the Role

SBM Life Science is seeking an experienced Industrial Engineer for a six-month, onsite project assignment at our Distribution Center in Mont Belvieu, Texas. This role is specifically focused on improving distribution center operations, including operational efficiency, process flow, warehouse system readiness, and performance visibility.

The Industrial Engineer will assess how work is performed today, document current-state processes, design improved future-state workflows, and help turn improvement opportunities into practical process and system changes. The IE will support system enhancements through disciplined User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and establishing a practical KPI and measurement program that gives Distribution Center leadership reliable data to identify issues, prioritize actions, and measure results.

We are looking for a hands-on Industrial engineer for a six-month project who is comfortable working on the warehouse floor, partnering with operations and IT, and independently driving a time-bound improvement project from analysis through implementation and handoff.

Key Responsibilities

Process Improvement & Workflow Design

  • Document current-state process flows for priority Distribution Center operations and develop future-state workflows that improve efficiency, clarity, and operational flow.
  • Identify bottlenecks, waste, rework, handoff gaps, and root causes, and develop practical solutions to address them.
  • Establish baseline performance and use post-change data to quantify and validate improvements.

Systems Improvement & User Acceptance Testing

  • Translate operational and future-state process needs into clear business and system requirements for WMS, ERP, RF, and related warehouse technologies.
  • Develop structured UAT protocols, including test scenarios, scripts, expected results, pass/fail criteria, defect tracking, retesting, and sign-off.
  • Coordinate testing with Distribution Center users and IT/system resources to ensure testing reflects actual warehouse operating conditions.

KPI, Measurement & Reporting

  • Build recurring reports and dashboards that provide meaningful visibility into productivity, throughput, quality, inventory, service, and labor performance.
  • Analyze performance data to help Distribution Center leadership identify issues, prioritize improvement opportunities, and monitor results.
  • Create user-friendly documentation and guidance so reporting and measurement processes can be sustained after the assignment.

Operational Efficiency & Project Execution

  • Conduct time studies, work measurement, capacity and labor analysis, and layout/material-flow reviews as needed to support improvement decisions.
  • Develop clear process and project documentation to support successful implementation and handoff to Distribution Center leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in industrial engineering, warehouse/distribution operations, and operational process improvement.
  • Hands-on experience developing current-state and future-state process maps and applying Lean, root-cause analysis, standard work, or similar continuous-improvement methods.
  • Strong Excel, data analysis, KPI/reporting, and dashboard development skills.
  • Strong analytical and systems-thinking skills with the ability to connect processes, people, data, and technology.
  • Ability to independently organize priorities, manage project milestones, identify risks, and deliver measurable results within a six-month assignment.
  • Experience with Blue Yonder or a similar Warehouse Management System (WMS).

What Success Looks Like

At the conclusion of this six-month assignment, the successful Industrial Engineer will have helped SBM establish clearer and more efficient Distribution Center processes, strengthened system testing and readiness, implemented meaningful performance measures, and provided the tools and documentation needed for the team to sustain improvements going forward.
