Engineering Industrial Placement – Aftertreatment Integration Development

An international engineering organisation is seeking an engineering placement student to support the development and testing of engine and exhaust aftertreatment systems, which help reduce harmful emissions.

You will gain hands-on experience analysing engine and vehicle test data, evaluating components, supporting control-system development and investigating technical issues. The role also involves simulations using MATLAB and Simulink, preparing technical review materials and coordinating prototype parts and testing equipment.

You must meet ALL the criteria below to be considered. If you do not meet every requirement, you will not be invited to interview.

1. Relevant degree: Are you currently studying towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or another STEM-related subject?
2. Placement eligibility: Are you eligible to undertake a placement year as part of your degree?
3. Availability: Can you commit to a full-time placement year starting in summer 2027?
4. Location and attendance: Can you work 100% on-site in Darlington , arranging your own travel or relocation? Relocation support is not provided.
5. MATLAB: Do you have a good working knowledge of MATLAB?
6. Microsoft Office: Do you have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word ?
7. Problem-solving: Can you demonstrate a methodical, data-based approach to investigating and solving problems?
8. Teamwork and communication: Do you have strong teamwork and communication skills?

Desirable, but not essential: Knowledge of diesel engines and/or exhaust aftertreatment architecture. Training will be provided.
