Industrial Machine Technician

The Job

Industrial Machine Technician wanted in Houston. You will be in the field, at customer plants, fixing production equipment that is down and costing somebody money every hour it sits.

S-I Machine Services sells and services industrial band saws across the Houston area. We are a family business, and the technician in this seat carries our name into every shop he walks into.

The standard: within 90 days you are running routine service calls on your own and turning in a written report the same day, every job.

A Typical Week

• Drive to a customer plant and diagnose a machine that quit — electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or mechanical
• Pull a schematic, meter in hand, and work the fault down in order instead of guessing
• Lock out and verify before you open a panel on a 3-phase machine
• Set up and start a new machine: uncrate, assemble, power up, test, train the operator
• Run preventive maintenance on accounts that are on a schedule
• Write it up the same day — what failed, what you did, what parts went in, what the customer needs next
• Take a phone call from a customer who needs an answer before you get there

What Makes Someone Good at This

The best techs we have worked on machines they had never seen and figured them out. That matters more here than knowing one brand inside and out.

Must have

• Several years in industrial machinery maintenance, service, or repair
• A track record of troubleshooting unfamiliar equipment
• Comfort with industrial electrical systems and live 3-phase power
• Can read an electrical schematic and a mechanical drawing
• Solid with a multimeter
• Will write the report the same day — non-negotiable
• Can do field work at customer sites and take occasional overnight travel
• Valid driver's license, clean enough driving record for a company truck

Helps

• Band saw experience, any brand
• Lathes, mills, grinders, press brakes, shears, other fabrication equipment
• Hydraulics, pneumatics, PLCs, drives
• Spanish — half our customers speak it

Not the Right Job For You If

You cannot read a schematic, you have never worked live 3-phase, you want to stay in a shop, or you do not want to write reports. Those are the four things that end it, and we would rather say so now.

What We Pay

$25.00–$40.00/hour depending on experience and how much you can run on your own.

Plus: 401(k) with match, PTO and vacation, paid federal holidays, company truck, company tools.

Full-time. Houston, TX. In person, out in the field. Monday–Friday with the occasional after-hours call.
