What they need

Job Overview

The ideal candidate is a hands-on industrial maintenance professional who enjoys troubleshooting difficult equipment problems and asks, "Why did it fail, and what can we change so it doesn't happen again?" rather than simply replacing the failed component and waiting for the next breakdown.

This person should be comfortable working directly with operators, engineers, supervisors, Quality, and management and should understand that equipment reliability directly affects safety, quality, delivery, and the company's ability to support its customers.

Responsibilities

  • Production Equipment Maintenance

Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, adjust, and support manufacturing equipment including, but not limited to:

· Resistance spot-welding equipment and associated controls

· Welding power supplies and welding support equipment

· Tube-forming, roll-forming, groove-rolling, and other tube-processing equipment

· Magneforming equipment

· Presses, fixtures, jigs, and tooling

· Pneumatic and hydraulic equipment and systems

· Motors, pumps, bearings, gearboxes, and drive systems

· Material-handling equipment

· Air compressors and compressed-air systems

· Industrial ventilation and exhaust equipment

· Chemical-processing and conversion-coating equipment

· Pumps, plumbing, tanks, piping, valves, and associated process equipment

· Paint and finishing equipment

· General machine-shop and manufacturing equipment

Perform both emergency repairs and planned maintenance while minimizing disruption to production.

Electrical & Controls Troubleshooting

· Troubleshoot motors, switches, relays, contactors, transformers, sensors, solenoids, and control circuits.

· Diagnose electrical faults using multimeters, clamp meters, and other appropriate diagnostic equipment.

· Read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.

· Troubleshoot industrial equipment operating on common manufacturing voltages.

· Identify problems involving machine controls and PLC-controlled equipment.

· Replace and properly install electrical components within the technician's qualifications and applicable codes.

· Assist qualified electricians or equipment manufacturers when work exceeds internal capabilities.

· Support troubleshooting of resistance-welding controls, cooling systems, transformers, cables, electrodes, and associated equipment.

PLC troubleshooting experience is strongly preferred.

Mechanical Maintenance

Perform troubleshooting and repairs involving bearings, shafts, couplings, gearboxes, belts and chains, motors, pumps, valves, pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders, linear-motion systems, fasteners, fixtures, machine alignment, industrial piping, and mechanical drive systems.

The technician must be capable of diagnosing the root cause of equipment failures rather than repeatedly replacing failed components.

Preventive Maintenance Program

A major responsibility of this position will be helping ADE strengthen its preventive maintenance program.

· Perform scheduled preventive maintenance.

· Develop PM requirements for manufacturing and facility equipment.

· Establish appropriate daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semiannual, and annual maintenance intervals.

· Create and improve equipment-specific maintenance checklists and standardized job instructions.

· Maintain equipment maintenance histories and document repairs and replaced components.

· Identify recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.

· Maintain critical spare-parts recommendations and identify equipment approaching end-of-life before failures affect production.

The goal is to move maintenance from a primarily reactive function toward a planned and preventive equipment-reliability program.

Equipment Installation & Commissioning

· Review equipment installation requirements.

· Coordinate electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, cooling-water, ventilation, and other utility requirements.

· Support rigging, equipment placement, leveling, and alignment.

· Work with OEM technicians and outside contractors.

· Support equipment startup and acceptance.

· Maintain equipment manuals and documentation.

· Establish PM requirements before equipment enters routine production.

The technician must recognize when specialized work requires a qualified electrician, HVAC technician, plumber, equipment manufacturer, or other licensed/specialized contractor rather than attempting work outside their qualifications.

Facility Maintenance

Support facility systems as necessary, including electrical systems, lighting, plumbing, HVAC coordination, compressed air, ventilation, exhaust systems, doors and dock equipment, roof and building repairs, grounds, safety equipment, and general facility infrastructure.

Production equipment downtime will generally take priority over routine facility or cosmetic work.

Chemical Processing Equipment

Support the mechanical systems associated with ADE's chemical-processing operations, including process tanks, pumps, piping, valves, rinse systems, ventilation/exhaust, wastewater-treatment equipment, tank containment, and associated process equipment.

Work involving hazardous chemicals must be performed in accordance with established safety procedures, PPE requirements, environmental requirements, and applicable regulations.

Safety

· Follow OSHA requirements and company safety procedures.

· Properly perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and verify zero-energy state before servicing equipment.

· Follow electrical-safety practices and use appropriate PPE.

· Safely work around chemical-processing equipment.

· Properly operate lifts, ladders, and material-handling equipment.

· Maintain machine guarding and safety devices.

· Never bypass safety devices simply to keep production running.

· Immediately report unsafe equipment or conditions.

Documentation & Organization

· Maintain a clean and organized maintenance shop and sustain 5S principles.

· Properly identify and store tools and maintain spare-parts inventory.

· Maintain equipment manuals and technical documentation.

· Document completed repairs, PM activities, and equipment service history.

· Identify critical spare parts and maintain appropriate consumables.

· Assist with development of equipment files for major production assets.

Maintenance areas should be maintained to the same standard expected of the production floor.

Production Support & Prioritization

When multiple maintenance requests exist, work should generally be prioritized according to:

1. Safety or environmental risk

2. Equipment preventing production from operating

3. Equipment threatening product quality

4. Equipment operating in a degraded condition

5. Scheduled preventive maintenance

6. Facility repairs and improvements

7. Cosmetic/non-production work

The technician must communicate changing priorities and equipment status clearly with Operations and Production leadership.

Continuous Improvement

Maintenance at Arnold Defense is expected to contribute to equipment and process improvement - not simply repair breakdowns.

· Equipment reliability and downtime reduction

· Improved machine guarding and error-proofing

· Preventive maintenance and equipment upgrades

· Tooling improvements and workplace organization

· Spare-parts availability

· Reduced setup time

· Equipment standardization

Recurring failures should be investigated and permanently corrected whenever practical.
