What they need

Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Infant Teacher to join our early childhood education team. Our program participates in the Texas Rising Star (TRS) Program and is committed to continuous quality improvement in curriculum, classroom environments, teacher-child interactions, family engagement, and professional development.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience caring for infants in a licensed childcare setting, a strong understanding of infant growth and development, and a commitment to providing a nurturing, responsive, safe, and engaging environment. This role supports infants' social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and language development through responsive caregiving, meaningful interactions, purposeful play, and consistent implementation of the Frog Street curriculum.

As a ministry of Joshua Methodist Church, JUMPS provides a Christ-centered preschool environment where Christian values, Bible stories, prayer, songs, and opportunities for spiritual growth are incorporated into children's daily experiences.

Applicants selected for an interview will be required to complete the JUMPS Employment Application prior to their interview. To streamline the interview process, please download, complete, and bring the application with you to your scheduled interview. The application is available at: www.joshuamethodist.church/wp-content/uploads/JUMPS-employment-application.pdf

Responsibilities

  • Implement the Frog Street curriculum consistently and in accordance with JUMPS program expectations, adapting learning experiences to each infant's developmental needs, interests, abilities, and individual routines.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences through responsive interactions, purposeful play, sensory exploration, music, movement, language, and hands-on experiences.
  • Provide attentive, nurturing care while responding appropriately to each infant's individual cues and needs.
  • Maintain active supervision of infants at all times, including during floor play, feeding, diapering, transitions, and sleep/rest periods, while maintaining required staff-to-child ratios.
  • Follow all JUMPS and Texas Child Care Licensing safe sleep requirements, including proper sleep positioning, appropriate crib environments, regular visual observation, and other required safe sleep practices.
  • Follow established procedures for feeding, bottle handling, diapering, handwashing, sanitation, and maintaining a clean and safe infant classroom.
  • Observe and document children's developmental progress and participate in JUMPS' developmental screening and assessment practices, including use of the CIRCLE Developmental Milestone Checklist.
  • Maintain open, respectful, and professional communication with parents/guardians through ClassDojo, daily communication, conferences, and other JUMPS-approved communication methods.
  • Communicate important information regarding each infant's daily care, including feeding, diapering, sleep, activities, development, and changes in behavior or routine.
  • Foster secure, positive relationships with infants through consistent, responsive, and developmentally appropriate interactions.
  • Use positive, developmentally appropriate guidance and support as infants begin developing social-emotional skills, communication, independence, and relationships with others.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers and staff to support continuous quality improvement and consistent classroom practices.
  • Maintain accurate records related to attendance, feeding, diapering, sleep, developmental observations, incident reports, and compliance requirements.
  • Participate in required trainings, professional development, and ongoing curriculum and quality initiatives.
  • Support JUMPS' Christ-centered mission by incorporating age-appropriate Christian values, Bible stories, prayer, songs, and spiritual learning opportunities into daily classroom experiences.

Experience

  • Previous experience caring for infants in a licensed childcare or early childhood setting is required.
  • Knowledge of infant growth and development and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Understanding of responsive caregiving and the importance of forming nurturing, consistent relationships with infants.
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to infants' individual cues, routines, and needs.
  • Strong organization, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability and willingness to consistently follow JUMPS curriculum, classroom procedures, safe sleep practices, licensing requirements, and quality standards.
  • Willingness and ability to complete all required Texas Child Care Licensing, JUMPS, curriculum, health and safety, safe sleep, and professional development training.
  • Ability to safely perform the physical responsibilities of infant care, including lifting and carrying children, bending, standing, sitting on the floor, and moving throughout the classroom.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.

We welcome applicants who are committed to providing infants with a safe, nurturing, responsive, and Christ-centered environment where they can learn, grow, and thrive.
