WORK LOCATION: 73 Hunter Street, Apex, NC 27502

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

Employees in this role partner with staff across the Town to keep our technology systems running smoothly and supporting the work we do every day. This includes helping test, maintain, and monitor a wide range of systems—from servers and networks to databases and business applications. The position involves evaluating software tools to see how well they fit our needs, adapting applications when necessary, and recommending new solutions that help the Town operate more efficiently. Team members in this role also help document system processes, develop testing and quality standards, and make system improvements that streamline workflows and make information easier to share across departments. While most work is performed independently with general guidance from IT leadership, the role offers opportunities to collaborate, solve problems creatively, and make a meaningful impact. Occasional evening or weekend work may be needed for maintenance or special projects, and success is measured by the reliability of our systems, the quality of technical support provided, and feedback from the colleagues we serve.

A SAMPLE OF THE ESSENTIALS:

  • Assists with major systems projects involving the design, testing and implementation of computer applications to enhance work performed by Town departments; determines scope and timeline for projects and provides the necessary technical documents for review and acceptance throughout the life cycle of projects.
  • Engages town personnel to determine technical requirements for automating business practices; consults with users to define needs and requirements; translates business requirements into technical design documents; uses technical design documents to write code or evaluate third party software; develops testing and implementation strategies; tests and demonstrates applications and makes modifications based on user feedback.
  • Documents and maps organizational business processes, including process integration and data flows.
  • Develops and administers SQL database systems used by enterprise applications. Such tasks include creating databases, performing maintenance, working with SSRS and SSIS, managing backups and restorations, performance tuning, creating scripts and stored procedures, maintaining user accounts and permissions.
  • Assists in managing enterprise applications by evaluating and implementing new software releases while maintaining a close working relationship with the software vendor; troubleshoots system errors and takes corrective action in a manner that minimizes impact on Town business operations.
  • Creates and maintains reports; produces ad-hoc reports on request; performs data extraction, to include data mapping and conversion. Develops and maintains PowerBI reports and dashboards.
  • Supports specialized system software and acts as a liaison with software vendors.
  • Provides technical support and training to users of enterprise applications.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, mathematics, statistics, or engineering with course work in computer science or management information systems, and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in systems analysis and programming or assigned area of specialty; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
