Summary

Leads information technology strategy and development for Meals on Wheels Central Texas—building and improving the applications, integrations, and automation our programs and business lines run on. This role sets the direction for the organization’s business systems—Salesforce, Microsoft 365, the Microsoft Power Platform, integrations, and automation—and is accountable for delivering the technology outcomes in the organization’s strategic priorities, including ensuring every department has the digital tools it needs and that staff actively adopt them. The Director leads the IT team, turns the needs of our business lines into improved processes and applications, manages the technology budget and vendors, and serves as the organization’s primary technology partner to leadership and departments. The Director actively engages, coordinates, and supervises volunteers who contribute to technology projects, and builds volunteer engagement into how the IT team plans and delivers its work. The focus of the role is modernization, development, and measurable adoption; routine system administration and user support are performed by the IT team under standards set by the Director. IT infrastructure, including networks, devices, and phones, is overseen by the Senior Director, Business Operations.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Strategy and Roadmap (20%)

  • Define, own, and execute the organization’s technology roadmap in alignment with its strategic priorities, and report progress to leadership
  • Design and lead the organization-wide technology needs assessment, and prioritize tools and improvements for each department
  • Analyze and redesign business processes with departments before automating them
  • Evaluate where AI and automation create real, responsible value for staff, volunteers, and neighbors
  • Make build-versus-buy decisions, and consolidate or retire underused and redundant systems
  • Evaluate opportunities to share technology infrastructure with peer aging-services organizations

Software Development and Integration (25%)

  • Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of custom applications, integrations, and automation across Salesforce, Microsoft 365, and the Power Platform
  • Architect integrations and APIs between internal platforms and external partner, payment, and reporting systems
  • Personally build the most complex solutions, and direct and review the development work of IT staff and contractors
  • Set development standards for sandbox-to-production release management, code review, testing, and technical documentation

Platform Ownership and Adoption (20%)

  • Own Salesforce and the Power Platform as enterprise platforms, including their architecture, roadmap, and governance
  • Deliver the technology that supports strategic initiatives, including meal sales and payment systems, volunteer retention tracking, partner and referral tracking, holistic neighbor onboarding, and program cost and impact reporting
  • Ensure technology tools support volunteer engagement, onboarding, and retention across the organization
  • Measure adoption through active-use tracking and staff feedback, and ensure tools that prove hard to use are fixed
  • Lead change management so new tools become part of everyday work across departments

Team and Volunteer Leadership, Budget, and Vendors (20%)

  • Lead, supervise, and develop the Manager, IT Support and Training, and IT volunteers; set team priorities and workload
  • Manage IT contractors, including the Developer, Technology Solutions (Contract): set project priorities, deliverables, and technical standards, and accept completed work
  • Engage, coordinate, and supervise skilled technology volunteers (such as developers, analysts, trainers, and data volunteers) on IT projects, and define higher-responsibility volunteer roles on the IT team with clear training paths
  • Apply a volunteer-first check when planning new technology work, identifying where volunteers can contribute
  • Build the IT team’s capabilities in development, process improvement, adoption support, and volunteer engagement
  • Develop and manage the technology budget; own business systems and software vendor relationships, contracts, and licensing
  • Lead cross-functional technology projects with program, volunteer, development, and finance teams

Governance, Security, and Data Architecture (15%)

  • Set enterprise data architecture and data model standards, and approve data model changes across Salesforce, Dataverse, and connected systems
  • Set and verify standards for system performance, backup, recovery, and data integrity; routine maintenance is performed by the IT team
  • Maintain access lifecycle management, change control, application security, and audit readiness for business systems, coordinating with the Senior Director on infrastructure security
  • Ensure systems meet organizational policies and the data and reporting requirements of funders and contracts
  • Maintain technical architecture documentation and system runbooks

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 7+ years of experience in software development, systems engineering, business systems, or technology leadership, including at least 3 years supervising staff or leading technical teams
  • Hands-on programming experience in two or more of Apex, JavaScript, Python, or C#
  • Demonstrated Salesforce development and administration experience; Salesforce Platform Developer or Architect certification preferred
  • Experience building solutions with the Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, Dataverse)
  • Experience with system architecture, API integration, data modeling, and release management
  • Track record of delivering a technology roadmap and achieving measurable user adoption
  • Experience managing technology budgets, vendors, and contracts
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions and communicate clearly with non-technical staff
  • Experience engaging, coordinating, and supervising volunteers
  • Experience applying AI and automation responsibly in business processes preferred
  • Nonprofit or human services experience preferred
