Infrastructure Engineer | VMware & Windows | NV1 Essential

Location: Macquarie Park, Sydney

Working arrangement: Five days per week onsite

Contract: Initial 2–3 months, with potential for further support over the next 12 months as required

Security clearance: NV1 essential

Firesoft is seeking expressions of interest from experienced Infrastructure Engineers with strong VMware and Windows administration skills for a contract engagement supporting a Defence technology program.

This is a hands-on role focused on on-premises infrastructure, spanning virtualisation, Windows servers, backup and recovery, identity management and application deployment. Networking knowledge and cyber security skills are also important to the requirement.

The opportunity

You’ll support the configuration, administration and troubleshooting of the infrastructure environment, helping maintain reliable systems and effective recovery capabilities.

The role will suit an engineer who is comfortable working across VMware and Microsoft technologies, investigating technical issues and understanding the security implications of infrastructure configuration.

What you’ll be working across

• VMware vSphere: Administration and support of virtualised infrastructure, including virtual machine configuration and troubleshooting.
• VMware Live Site Recovery: Supporting recovery configurations and disaster recovery capabilities.
• Veeam: Administration and troubleshooting of backup and recovery.
• Windows Server 2022/2025: Server configuration, administration and technical support.
• On-premises Active Directory: Supporting directory services and associated configuration.
• Group Policy Objects: Managing policies and troubleshooting configuration issues.
• Application deployment: Deploying and supporting applications within the Windows environment.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone with practical experience administering VMware and Windows infrastructure, supported by:

• Networking knowledge and relevant cyber security skills.
• A methodical approach to troubleshooting across connected infrastructure components.
• An understanding of backup, recovery and system availability.
• Clear communication and the ability to explain technical issues and their impact.
• A security-conscious approach to administration and configuration.

Previous experience supporting Defence or other secure technology environments would be valuable.

Essential requirements

• NV1 security clearance.
• Availability to work onsite at Macquarie Park five days per week.
• Availability for the initial 2–3 month engagement, with 12 month ext.
