What they need

Infrastructure Planning Engineer
Local Government | South Australia
Full-time | Permanent | Competitive salary + superannuation

Plan smarter infrastructure renewal
Our client is a progressive and well-established metropolitan council serving a diverse and growing community of more than 130,000 residents, the organisation manages a significant portfolio of community infrastructure, roads, drainage, open space and
public assets. They are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Planning Engineer to help shape this local Council’s future infrastructure renewal program.

This is a technically focused role for an engineer who can assess infrastructure condition, understand underlying failure mechanisms and develop practical, cost-effective renewal strategies. It is an opportunity to join a collaborative engineering environment where you can make a genuine contribution to the community by developing well investigated, integrated, appropriately budgeted and clearly scoped projects that the delivery teams can take forward.

About the role
You will be responsible for:

  • Planning and scoping renewal projects across roads, pavements, curb and gutter, footpaths and stormwater infrastructure.
  • Reviewing asset condition, maintenance history, traffic, drainage and existing infrastructure information.
  • Developing and managing appropriate site investigations and structural assessments.
  • Diagnosing pavement and infrastructure deterioration and determining appropriate rehabilitation treatments.
  • Identifying opportunities to coordinate road works with drainage, utilities, footpaths, accessibility, curb and streetscape improvements.
  • Preparing project scopes, technical briefs, preliminary cost estimates, risk assessments and business cases.
  • Working closely with asset management, design, delivery, operations, consultants and other stakeholders.
  • Applying whole-of-life asset management principles to optimise investment and minimise future maintenance and rework.

About you
You will be a qualified Civil Engineer with demonstrated experience in infrastructure planning, asset management, road rehabilitation or civil project scoping development.

You will ideally bring:

  • Strong pavement engineering and road rehabilitation knowledge.
  • Experience investigating infrastructure failures and interpreting technical testing.
  • Understanding of stormwater, drainage and civil infrastructure interfaces.
  • A curiosity for alternative materials, treatments and approaches and identify opportunities to improve asset life and environmental impacts.
  • Experience developing renewal scopes and treatment strategies.
  • Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A practical understanding of construction, risk, cost and whole-of-life considerations.

Local government experience is desirable, but we also welcome candidates from consulting or infrastructure delivery backgrounds.

Why join?
This is an opportunity to influence infrastructure investment before projects reach detailed design and construction — ensuring Council delivers the right treatment, in the right location, at the right time.

This is a full-time permanent opportunity offering competitive remuneration and the opportunity to join a dynamic environment, shaping the future of our City.

If you enjoy solving complex infrastructure problems, challenging assumptions and turning asset information into practical renewal project scopes, we would like to hear from you.
