Inpatient Coder

THIS IS AN IN-PERSON POSITION

We are seeking an experienced Inpatient Coding Specialist with a strong background in acute care hospital coding. This is an excellent opportunity to join a Magnet-recognized hospital in a place known for hosting world class entertainers while still being a outdoor oasis and local art district hub!

In this role, you'll be responsible for expert inpatient coding of medical records, ensuring accurate clinical data abstraction, reimbursement, regulatory compliance, and reporting. You'll also identify coding opportunities, monitor trends, review discrepancies, and collaborate with leadership to support continuous improvement and accurate revenue cycle processes.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum (3) years of inpatient coding experience in an acute care hospital setting
• Strong experience with complex inpatient medical records and clinical documentation

Licensure / Certification

At least one of the following certifications or credentials is required:

• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

Required Skills & Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS code sets
• Understanding of Medicare, IPPS, MS-DRG classification, and hospital reimbursement regulations
• Experience with 3M 360 or similar computer-assisted coding/encoder systems
• Strong understanding of revenue cycle workflows, including coding edits, auditing, denials management, charge master, and clinical documentation improvement
• Experience reviewing and abstracting clinical documentation from medical records
• Ability to identify coding discrepancies, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement
• Experience running physician queries and reviewing documentation for completeness and accuracy
• Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and surgical procedures
• Ability to meet established coding quality and productivity standards
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy while working with complex medical records
• Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and prepare technical reports
• Proficient with EHR systems, coding software, and standard computer applications
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with physicians, clinical staff, coding leadership, and other healthcare professionals
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when handling patient and organizational information

Pay: $28.00 - $43.00 per hour
