Inside Sales Manager

Job Description

This role leads a high-performing inside sales organization focused on driving both direct and assisted e-commerce revenue while elevating customer experience. You will oversee consultative, project-based sales motions, optimize profitability on customer supportdriven sales, and operationalize programs that connect digital orders with installation and landscape design services. The position requires a strategic, data-driven leader who is comfortable managing a tiered team, partnering with analytics and technology stakeholders, and continuously refining sales processes through testing and optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive performance across two primary revenue dimensions: Direct Revenue from agent-placed orders and Assisted/Influenced Revenue from downstream self-service purchases occurring within a seven-day window after consultative interactions.
  • Expand EBITDA margins on customer supportdriven sales by coaching the team to maximize average order value through bulk sales, strategic cross-selling of soil, fertilizer, companion accessories, and value-added services, targeting margins of 1617% compared to the e-commerce baseline.
  • Operationalize trigger-based routing to ensure human experts proactively take over complex moments, including high-value carts, multi-SKU landscaping projects, and high-intent browse abandonment scenarios.
  • Design, scale, and monitor targeted outbound campaigns via SMS and phone that focus on high average-order-value cart abandoners, first-time large-order buyers, and high-propensity customer segments.
  • Refine and oversee proactive Save the Sale playbooks that turn logistics delays or stockouts into solutions-oriented recovery opportunities, preserving margin and customer lifetime value.
  • Provide direct coaching, mentorship, and performance management to the CX Sales Team Lead to build and strengthen a robust supervisory layer.
  • Standardize daily and weekly operating rhythms, including morning stand-ups, scripted sales coaching guides, and performance-based incentive (spiff) programs.
  • Partner with external consultants and internal quality assurance teams to design and execute A/B testing on representative scripts, objection-handling techniques, and follow-up cadences.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of inside sales management, e-commerce sales leadership, or consultative retail sales operations experience.
  • 23 years of sales leadership experience with responsibility for team performance and outcomes.
  • 5 total years of B2B sales experience, with a strong focus on consultative, relationship-based selling.
  • Proven experience managing a tiered team, including managing supervisors or team leads.
  • Hands-on project management experience with a track record of testing, integrating, and launching third-party partnerships or field-service operations.
  • Deep comfort utilizing advanced business intelligence and customer relationship management reporting tools to monitor pipelines, track multi-touch attribution, and execute A/B testing.
  • Expert-level knowledge of consultative, relationship-focused sales techniques, including objection-handling and trigger-based outbound sequencing in a direct-to-consumer or B2B2C environment.
  • Ability to balance tactical daily floor management with long-term strategic roadmapping, resource planning, and third-party vendor management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team in an e-commerce sales environment.
  • Strong background in sales management, inside sales, customer service, and sales support.
