What they need
POSITION SUMMARY
The Technical Sales Representative supports Gandy's dealers, distributors, OEM partners and direct customers across our custom, agricultural, turf and ice-control product lines. The role pairs deep product knowledge with commercial ownership: helping customers select the right application equipment for their operation, and developing accurate, profitable quotations for standard, modified and custom-fabricated products.
The role also supports our OEM and custom business. You will serve as the inside contact for OEM accounts and Gandy Custom Fabrication customers, handling print-based inquiries, private-label and modified-standard programs, and repeat production work through the same quoting and order process used for our catalog lines.
This is a hands-on position. You will work daily with engineering, production scheduling, purchasing and the outside sales team to convert customer requirements into buildable, correctly costed offers that we can deliver on time.
1 CUSTOMER, DEALER & OEM ENGAGEMENT
– Respond to customer, dealer and distributor inquiries on equipment, specifications, configurations and applications.
– Build and maintain relationships with existing and prospective accounts through consistent, proactive communication.
– Serve as the inside point of contact for order status, availability and application questions.
2 TECHNICAL SUPPORT & APPLICATION EXPERTISE
– Provide in-depth product knowledge and technical support across applicators, seeders, spreaders and turf maintenance equipment.
– Help customers select equipment, metering configurations and mounting arrangements based on their crop, material, rate and implement requirements.
– Interpret engineering drawings and bills of material to confirm fit, function and compatibility.
3 QUOTATION DEVELOPMENT & COST ESTIMATING
Own the quoting process end to end, from customer requirement through priced, margin-approved offer.
– Develop customer quotations for standard, modified and custom-fabricated products, including OEM and Gandy Custom Fabrication work.
– Estimate the manufacturing process and routing required to build the product — laser cutting, machining, forming, welding, painting and assembly — including setup and run times at each operation.
– Build input costs from current material pricing, purchased components, hardware and outside processing, accounting for scrap, freight and any tooling or fixturing required.
– Apply labor rates and manufacturing overhead absorption to develop a fully burdened cost for each quoted item.
– Price to established profitability and margin targets; identify quotes that fall below threshold and escalate for review before release.
– Validate lead times and capacity with production scheduling and purchasing before committing delivery dates.
– Maintain quote logs, cost templates and estimating assumptions; track win/loss outcomes and compare estimated cost to actual cost to improve future accuracy.
– Maintain organized records of quoting process including updating the ERP with most current information and documentation.
4 OEM & CUSTOM FABRICATION SUPPORT
Act as the inside point of contact for OEM accounts and Gandy Custom Fabrication customers, from first inquiry through repeat production release.
– Gather customer prints, tolerances, finish and packaging requirements; review with engineering and production to confirm manufacturability before quoting.
– Support private-label, modified-standard and customer-specific configurations, including special paint, branding and assembly requirements.
– Coordinate blanket orders, release schedules and annual pricing agreements with production scheduling and purchasing.
– Manage revision and engineering change activity on OEM parts, re-estimating cost when scope, material or volume changes.
– Balance custom fabrication work against standard product demand so both are quoted with realistic lead times.
5 SALES PROCESS MANAGEMENT
– Partner with the sales team to identify opportunities and develop strategies to reach sales targets.
– Prepare and deliver sales presentations, product demonstrations and formal quotations.
– Follow up on open quotes and move opportunities to close.
– Configure BOMs and Routings in ERP on awarded business.
6 ORDER PROCESSING & FULFILLMENT
– Manage order entry and processing with accuracy and timeliness.
– Coordinate with production, logistics and inventory teams to ensure on-time delivery.
– Confirm that as-sold configuration, pricing and terms carry cleanly into the order.
7 MARKET INSIGHT
– Stay current on industry trends, competitor products, material cost movement and market dynamics.
– Provide feedback to management on customer needs, pricing pressure and product gaps.
8 TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT
– Participate in ongoing training on product features, benefits and technological advancements.
– Assist in training new sales staff on product offerings, technical detail and quoting practice.
QUALIFICATIONS
– Degree in agricultural engineering, manufacturing, or a field service / equipment service technician program — or equivalent hands-on experience.
– 2+ years in technical sales, estimating or service, preferably in agricultural, turf or fabricated equipment.
– Experience estimating cost and quoting in a make-to-order or custom fabrication environment strongly preferred.
– Working understanding of manufacturing processes, routings, labor rates and overhead absorption.
– Ability to read engineering drawings and bills of material.
– Strong technical aptitude with a solid understanding of farm machinery and equipment.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
– Proficient with ERP/MRP systems, CRM software, and Microsoft Office — Excel in particular.
– Works well across a small, collaborative team.
