What they need
Position Summary
The Cell's core workforce executes installation verification, loop checks, SAT, commissioning, handover on active projects, and post-handover service (SLA response, warranty work, minor service POs) on delivered projects. Works under the Commissioning Lead. Must be capable of testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting PLC systems on site — they do not need to create PLC programs from scratch. Our primary PLC platforms are Beckhoff TwinCAT and Phoenix Contact PLCnext.
Key Responsibilities — Project Delivery
- Execute site installation verification: loop checks, I/O verification, cable continuity, instrument calibration
- Lead and execute SAT procedures under Commissioning Lead's direction
- Perform commissioning: system startup, sequence verification, interlock testing, performance validation
- Test and troubleshoot PLC systems on site: connect to Beckhoff TwinCAT or Phoenix Contact PLCnext, read and interpret programs in live mode, trace signal paths, verify I/O mapping, modify parameters (timers, counters, setpoints), and resolve comms faults
- Manage subcontractor crews: schedule work, conduct toolbox meetings, verify quality, document performance
- Produce field documentation: SAT reports, commissioning records, punchlists, as-built markups, handover checklists
Key Responsibilities — Service
- Respond to SLA service calls: diagnose and resolve automation faults on client sites within contractual response times
- Execute warranty repairs: component swaps, PLC parameter corrections, instrument recalibration, system retesting
- Perform minor automation service work: small PO-based tasks (adding I/O points, modifying sequences, updating HMI screens)
- Produce service reports documenting fault, root cause, resolution, and recommendations
Required PLC Skills — Testing, Commissioning & Troubleshooting (Not Programming)
- Connect to PLCs via laptop (Beckhoff TwinCAT XAE, Phoenix Contact PLCnext Engineer) and navigate the development environment
- Read and interpret ladder logic, structured text, and function block diagrams in live/online mode
- Trace signal paths: verify that physical inputs (sensors, switches) map correctly to PLC logic and outputs (actuators, valves)
- Monitor and modify parameters on site: timer values, counter presets, PID tuning parameters, setpoints — without rewriting the core program
- Troubleshoot comms protocols: diagnose EtherCAT, Modbus TCP/RTU, and Profinet network faults between PLCs and field devices
- Upload/download programs, perform online changes for parameter-level modifications, and backup/restore PLC configurations
Required Qualifications
- 2–5 years of field experience in industrial automation, control systems, or electrical installation/commissioning
- Hands-on experience testing and troubleshooting PLC systems (any platform — will be trained on Beckhoff/Phoenix Contact if needed)
- SAT execution and loop check experience
- Subcontractor crew management experience
- REE or ECE license; BOSH certified (COSH preferred)
- Willing to travel 60–80% nationwide
