What they need
Hands-on AI Lessons for Kids
Remote | Part-time freelance
Fundisa AB, the company behind 1on1Math, is a small education business expanding from maths tutoring into hands-on AI learning for children and teens. We are developing lessons for live online classes and partner-led programmes in South Africa. The aim is for learners to create, test and improve things—not just watch AI demonstrations.
The role
You make unfamiliar ideas easy to learn by doing. We are looking for an instructional designer who can both plan the learning and build engaging materials. You will lead the lesson objectives, sequence, activities and teacher guidance—not just write an outline for someone else to produce. A Fundisa educator will review content and classroom suitability.
What you will create
- Translate practical AI skills into clear learning goals and hands-on lessons: giving useful instructions, checking output, testing ideas, improving results and using AI responsibly.
- Design and build the full learning sequence, including student tasks, clear visuals, starter materials, worked examples and a simple check that shows what learners can do.
- Equip teachers and coaches with timing, setup instructions, questions to ask, likely misconceptions, troubleshooting, support and extension options, and a short training walkthrough.
- Improve lessons after supervised learner pilots and teacher feedback. Hand over editable materials and a brief summary of learning evidence that Fundisa can use to evaluate and explain the programme.
Your first project
Your first project is one 45–60-minute beginner lesson for ages 13–15 in one agreed teaching setting. Agree the objectives and tools, produce the lesson pack, support a learner pilot and revise. Success means a teacher who did not design it can deliver it, and learners can demonstrate the intended AI skill. We are not commissioning a whole curriculum in month one.
What we are looking for
- Examples of learning materials you designed and produced, showing a clear connection between the goal, activity and assessment. At least one should involve active participation rather than slides alone.
- The ability to create clear, appealing student resources and practical facilitator guidance—not only curriculum documents.
- Hands-on AI use, clear written and spoken English, accurate explanations, realistic estimates and thoughtful revision after feedback.
Experience with children, tutoring, STEM or project-based learning is valuable. Strong adult-learning designers are also welcome if you can adapt for younger beginners. No specific degree or certification is required. Use accessible tools such as Google Slides, Canva or interactive authoring tools; expensive e-learning software is not a requirement.
How we will work
Payment per hour, depending on relevant work. Initial four-week paid pilot, around 5–10 hours per week, capped at 40 hours. Ongoing part-time work may follow if the pilot succeeds and budget is available.
Remote freelance contract; Philippines-based applicants are especially welcome. Mostly flexible hours, with a weekly check-in and teacher sessions agreed in advance. Meetings, agreed research, testing and revisions are paid. Extra hours or spending require approval.
Fundisa provides an educator for learning review, arranges and supervises learner pilots, and provides agreed paid software access. We agree the brief, rate, weekly cap and payment schedule before starting.
This is a hands-on design and production role, not an AI research, business-automation or fundraising role. Fundisa retains programme strategy and final learning approval.
Responsible design
Use age- and setting-approved tools, protect learner privacy and identify asset licences and running costs. Include a fallback for limited devices, connectivity or tool failure. Fundisa handles safeguarding and permissions; no private learner contact or uploading learner personal data to AI tools.
How to apply
Apply through the job platform or reply to the person who shared this description. We are recruiting one person through related design and learning roles; please apply only once.
- Two relevant samples: a learning activity or module and teacher/facilitator guidance. Explain your contribution; anonymised or personal projects count.
- A short example of using AI in your work, including what you checked or improved and how you judged the result.
- Your hourly rate in USD, weekly availability, earliest start and possible call times in Philippine Time (UTC+8).
Shortlisted applicants have a brief portfolio conversation. Finalists are invited to a paid work sample: for up to three hours, with the brief and terms agreed first. AI use is welcome; explain your contribution and checks. No unpaid custom lesson or full course is required.
Pay: Php10,000.00 - Php20,000.00 per month
