What they need
About Us
TAKMIL (Teach A Kid Make Individual Life) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality education to out-of-school children in rural areas. Operating across 150+ non-formal centers, TAKMIL bridges local educational operations with global management teams to drive sustainable social impact.
About the Role
TAKMIL Foundation is looking for an Instructor who will coach and mentor students aged 13–16 through a fully online program on critical thinking, problem identification, problem-solving and technology. Students work in small teams to identify a real problem in their community, develop a solution and present it. The program also gives them a first, simple introduction to AI.
These students come from remote, underserved communities and are enrolled through our non-formal/accelerated learning program. Many are first-generation learners who are new to online learning and have limited experience with computers or phones, so we are looking for a patient, culturally sensitive coach and mentor rather than a regular classroom teacher. You will help students build the confidence to think for themselves, ask questions, work as a team and keep going when something does not work the first time.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Deliver engaging live online sessions to adolescent students, using a coaching and mentoring approach that builds mindset, motivation and confidence rather than lecturing.
- Build self-expression and confidence in students with limited prior exposure to structured or digital education, creating a safe space where they feel comfortable speaking up, sharing ideas and making mistakes.
- Guide students step by step through problem-solving, from understanding a real community problem to developing, testing and presenting a solution.
- Teach simple technology skills alongside the sessions, starting from the very basics and never assuming prior knowledge.
- Run teamwork in online breakout rooms and make sure every student, including quiet ones, gets a chance to speak and contribute.
- Assess student and team progress through regular learning checks and give kind, specific and constructive feedback.
- Check in with students individually and in groups, help them through setbacks and low motivation, and follow up with anyone who is absent, disconnected or falling behind.
- Help teams prepare and present their final work with confidence, including how to speak to the camera and answer questions.
- Introduce AI in simple words and explain why its answers must always be checked.
- Keep students safe and respectful online by setting class rules, protecting personal information and photos, and reporting any concern to the Program Team.
- Keep simple records of attendance, student work and progress, and stay in regular touch with the Program Team on scheduling and how the group is doing overall.
What You’ll Deliver
- Well-prepared, engaging live online sessions delivered on schedule to the full group of adolescent students, following the program curriculum and session structure.
- Small, well-functioning student teams supported in online breakout rooms, with clear roles and a fair chance for every student to take part.
- Team work reviewed, with kind and specific feedback given to each team, and completed work collected and filed.
- Regular learning checks completed and recorded for every student and team, using a simple rating scale, so progress is clear to the Program Team.
- Simple progress notes on each student’s confidence, participation and teamwork, with any student who is struggling or disengaging flagged to the Program Team.
- Individual follow-up and encouragement for students who are absent, disconnected or falling behind.
- Teams prepared and supported to present their final solution clearly and confidently to an audience.
- A simple, beginner-friendly introduction to AI that stresses safe and responsible use.
- Accurate attendance and progress records shared with the Program Team.
- A short wrap-up report on how students grew in confidence, thinking and problem-solving over the course of the program.
What We’re Looking For
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Psychology or Child Psychology.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in online coaching and mentoring of children or teenagers.
- Experience in online tutoring, delivering live sessions to students through a video-class platform.
- Mentorship experience, guiding young people through goals, confidence, motivation and teamwork.
- Experience working with first-generation learners, ideally children and adolescents from remote or underserved communities, in a facilitation, coaching or mentoring setting.
- Strong preference for a background in the NGO / development sector or in non-formal or accelerated education programs.
- We are not looking for a regular classroom teacher; the role needs a coaching and mentoring approach, not a lecture-based teaching style.
Skills and Qualities
- Comfortable leading group discussions, activities and small breakout rooms online, and reading the room through a screen.
- Strong motivational skills: able to encourage a student who is stuck and to keep a group energised and positive.
- Patient and clear communicator who can explain ideas in simple words and demonstrate technology steps
slowly for first-time users.
- Good spoken English and Urdu (other local languages a plus).
- Reliable internet, laptop and headset, and comfort with online classroom tools and WhatsApp.
- Basic understanding of AI and its safe use, enough to introduce it in simple words to beginners.
- Self-motivated and organised enough to run sessions on time and keep simple records while staying in sync with the Program Team.
