Little Explorers Per Diem Instructors provide coverage at school sites when additional staffing is needed. They quickly learn the day’s plan, connect with students, and help maintain a safe, engaging, and consistent program experience.

This is an as-needed position with no guaranteed hours. Assignments, schedules, and locations vary according to program and staffing needs. Employer-sponsored benefits provided to regularly scheduled employees are not included; legally required benefits and leave remain applicable.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead or support enrichment activities for approximately 10–20 students.
• Deliver the Explore → Capture → Document → Share learning experience.
• Quickly review lesson plans, progress notes, and materials before instruction.
• Build rapport with students, including groups you have not previously taught.
• Demonstrate activities, ask engaging questions, and provide active support.
• Help students document discoveries through photography, drawing, journals, discussions, and presentations.
• Maintain safe supervision, positive classroom behavior, and organized transitions.
• Collaborate with instructors, Lead Instructors, school staff, and after-school personnel.
• Care for cameras, journals, materials, and other program equipment.
• Communicate important updates to the Lead Instructor before leaving an assignment.

Scheduling

Assignments may be offered for employee absences, same-day coverage, planned time off, increased attendance, special events, or temporary staffing needs. Employees may accept available assignments based on their availability and Little Explorers scheduling procedures. There is no guaranteed minimum number of shifts or hours.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 48 college units or successful completion of the applicable NCLB/compliance alternative.
• Ability to obtain required fingerprint/background and TB clearance.
• Completion of mandated-reporter training, which may be provided upon hire.
• Ability to independently support or lead student activities after training.
• Transportation

Experience in after-school programs, education, childcare, youth development, recreation, photography, media, art, coaching, camps, or tutoring is preferred but not required.

Strong Per Diem Instructors may be considered for regularly scheduled positions as opportunities become available.

Pay: Up to $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 1.0 – 20.0 per week

Work Location: In person
