Job Summary

The Instrumentation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing instrumentation and control systems used to monitor and control industrial processes and equipment. The role ensures the reliability, accuracy, and efficiency of instrumentation systems while maintaining compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, maintain, calibrate, and repair instrumentation and control equipment.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on field instruments, control valves, transmitters, analyzers, sensors, and related equipment.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose faults in instrumentation, control systems, and process equipment.
• Conduct routine calibration and testing of instruments to ensure measurement accuracy and compliance with specifications.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
• Assist with the commissioning, modification, and upgrading of instrumentation and control systems.
• Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for reliability and process improvements.
• Support maintenance shutdowns, plant inspections, and equipment audits.
• Ensure all maintenance activities are completed in accordance with safety regulations and company procedures.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, calibration certificates, and technical documentation.
• Work closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and reliability teams to optimize plant performance.
• Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives related to instrumentation and control systems.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of industrial instrumentation and control systems.
• Ability to calibrate and troubleshoot pressure, temperature, flow, level, and analytical instruments.
• Knowledge of PLC, SCADA, DCS, and process control systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and electrical schematics.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols and control networks.
• Proficiency in the use of calibration and diagnostic equipment.
• Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet maintenance deadlines.

Qualifications and Experience

• Grade 12 / High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Trade Test Certificate as an Instrumentation Technician, Instrument Mechanician, or equivalent recognized qualification.
• National Diploma or Certificate in Instrumentation, Process Control, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field is advantageous.
• Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in industrial instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Experience working with PLC, SCADA, DCS, and automated control systems is preferred.
• Knowledge of condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and reliability practices is advantageous.
• Valid driver's license may be required depending on operational requirements.
