Insurance Director

Garden Street Insurance, a Landrum company, is seeking an Insurance Director to provide client-facing benefits consulting, insurance expertise and team leadership. This hands on role partners with Landrum’s Business Consultants to evaluate prospects and client benefit needs, recommend effective solutions and support long-term client relationships.

The Director will oversee benefit strategy, insurance placement, renewals, market analysis, carrier relationships, agency operations and client consultation. The role helps clients determine whether to retain existing plans, participate in Landrum master health plans or seek broader market coverage.

As leader of GSI, the Director will develop the team, set clear service and consulting standards, oversee agency work and ensure GSI operates as both an effective insurance agency and a strategic partner to Landrum.

Specifics of the Role:

• Partner with Business Consultants and prospects to assess benefit needs, business goals and workforce priorities during the sales process.
• Lead benefits discovery and recommend strategies across existing plans, Landrum master health plans, GSI solutions and broader market options.
• Evaluate carrier options, market pricing, competitiveness and plan tradeoffs; present clear recommendations to prospects and clients.
• Manage key client relationships, renewals, retention efforts and opportunities to expand coverage lines or Landrum services.
• Lead, coach and develop the GSI team, assigning work effectively and strengthening consulting, market analysis and client service capabilities.
• Oversee GSI’s book of business, agency performance, service quality, carrier relationships and compliance with agency procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Partner with Benefits, Customer Success, Operations, carriers and other stakeholders to coordinate benefit selection, implementation, administration and renewal.
• Support annual master health plan renewal strategy and collaborate across Landrum to ensure benefit decisions support client needs and long-term plan competitiveness.

What we are looking for:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Significant experience in employee benefits insurance, brokerage, carrier or related benefits consulting.
• Active Life and Health insurance license required.
• Demonstrated ability to consult directly with business owners, executives and senior decision makers regarding employee benefit strategies.
• Strong knowledge of group health and employee benefit products, insurance markets, carrier relationships and renewal strategy.
• Demonstrated experience evaluating benefit alternatives and translating complex insurance and financial information into clear client recommendations.
• Experience leading, coaching and developing employees, with the ability to remain actively involved in client and prospect work.
• Strong business judgment and the ability to balance client needs, market considerations and organizational objectives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, negotiation and relationship management skills.
• Strong understanding of applicable employee benefits regulations and compliance requirements.
• Ability to travel to client meetings and build relationships in and outside the Greenville market.
