About CFA Society New York

CFA Society New York is a leading forum for the investment community and the largest of more than 160 CFA Institute member societies worldwide. Since 1937, CFANY has served investment professionals through education, career development, thought leadership, networking, and opportunities to contribute to the profession. Our community includes more than 11,000 members across career stages and areas of financial services.

Position Summary

CFANY is seeking a relationship-oriented, highly organized professional to serve as the central point of connection among our members, volunteer Interest Group leaders, and internal teams. This role will increase member participation in CFANY's 12 volunteer-led Interest Groups and help each group turn member interests and industry ideas into a consistent pipeline of relevant educational and networking programs that can develop into successful CFANY events.

Interest Groups are central to member engagement, retention, and growth. The position will help members find meaningful ways to participate, equip volunteer leaders to build active communities, and coordinate ideas and activities across Membership, Events and Programming, and Marketing. The ideal candidate combines community engagement, volunteer management, program development, event planning and coordination, and reliable follow-through.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as the primary staff partner for Interest Group chairs and volunteer leaders, maintaining regular communication, clarifying priorities, and helping groups move initiatives forward.
  • Implement outreach that increase member awareness of, participation in, and leadership within Interest Groups.
  • Connect members with Interest Groups that match their professional interests, career stage, and desired level of involvement.
  • Help each Interest Group build an annual plan, priority topics, program concepts, meeting cadence, and key milestones.
  • Manage the monthly Interest Group meetings, including coordinating meeting schedules, maintaining the meeting calendar, supporting volunteer leaders, tracking follow-up items, and ensuring continuity across meetings.
  • Support each Interest Group in meeting its annual mandate of four events per year, working with volunteer leaders to develop an annual event calendar and track program ideas and events toward that goal.
  • Facilitate idea-development sessions that turn member interests and volunteer expertise into well-defined program and event proposals.
  • Guide proposals from initial concept through internal review, partnering with the Events team on format, audience, speakers, timing, and execution requirements.
  • Maintain a visible pipeline and calendar of Interest Group ideas, proposed programs, approved events, volunteer activities, and deadlines.
  • Onboard and support volunteer leaders with practical tools, templates, training, and best practices for community building, inclusive participation, and program development.
  • Partner with Membership to promote Interest Groups, recruit participants, communicate opportunities, and position volunteer involvement as a meaningful member benefit.
  • Track participation, volunteer activity, program development, and event outcomes; identify inactive or underserved groups and recommend actions to strengthen engagement.
  • Recognize volunteer contributions and help create a positive experience that encourages continued participation and leadership.
  • Keep accurate records of group rosters, meetings, initiatives, program concepts, decisions, and follow-up actions in applicable systems.
  • Provide regular updates to management on Interest Group activity, participation trends, program pipeline, opportunities, and risks.

What Success Looks Like

  • More members participate consistently in Interest Groups and volunteer activities.
  • Interest Groups maintain active leadership, regular communication, and clear annual priorities.
  • Each group develops a steady pipeline of relevant, audience-focused program ideas that progress into CFANY events.
  • Members and volunteer leaders experience timely communication, clear expectations, and strong staff support.
  • CFANY gains better insight into how Interest Group participation contributes to engagement, retention, and membership growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Three or more years of experience in member engagement, volunteer management, community building, association or nonprofit programs, event programming, or a related area.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage volunteers, build relationships, facilitate group discussions, and move ideas from concept to action.
  • Strong project-management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple groups, deadlines, and priorities at the same time.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and sound judgment when working with professionals, volunteers, and senior stakeholders.
  • Collaborative working style and the ability to coordinate effectively across Membership, Programming, Events, and Marketing.
  • Comfort using Microsoft Office and learning membership, customer relationship management, project-management, and event systems.
  • Interest in the investment profession and commitment to creating an inclusive, high-value member community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working for a professional membership association, nonprofit organization, or volunteer-led organization.
  • Experience developing educational, networking, or professional-development programs.
  • Experience using membership databases, CRM platforms, email marketing tools, or event-management systems.
