Job Role: Interim Closedown Support Accountant

Contract Duration: 6 - 9 Months

Rate: DOE

Hybrid: Full Time | 1-2 Day per Week Onsite

Start Date: TBC

Location: Southeast

Main Duties:

• Support the year-end closedown process, ensuring key deadlines are met.
• Assist in the preparation of the Statement of Accounts and associated working papers.
• Liaise with external auditors, responding to queries and providing supporting information.
• Maintain and reconcile the Council's Fixed Asset Register.
• Undertake asset accounting and reconciliation activities using Excel and relevant asset management systems.
• Review financial information to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards.
• Prepare audit-ready working papers and supporting documentation.
• Work closely with the wider finance team to resolve reconciliation issues and accounting discrepancies.
• Provide general technical accounting support throughout the closedown period.

Candidate Requirements:

• Previous experience supporting year-end closedown within a UK Local Authority.
• Strong understanding of local government accounting practices and statutory reporting requirements.
• Experience managing external audit requests and resolving audit queries.
• Strong reconciliation and fixed asset accounting experience.
• Excellent Excel skills and attention to detail.
• Fully qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience candidates will all be considered.
