Interim Service Development Lead – Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs)

I’m working on an exciting interim opportunity for an experienced healthcare operational professional to help shape a compelling service model for a significant NHS commissioning opportunity within Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC).

This is a hands-on assignment for someone who understands how urgent care services operate in practice and can bring together clinical, operational and corporate stakeholders to develop an innovative, commercially sound and deliverable proposition.

The role will involve:

• Leading workshops with clinical, operational and corporate stakeholders to shape the proposed service model.
• Challenging established approaches and identifying opportunities to improve patient pathways, efficiency, quality and outcomes.
• Developing practical, value-adding initiatives that strengthen the organisation’s proposition to NHS commissioners.
• Translating complex discussions into structured outputs to support the tender and bid-writing team.
• Applying operational knowledge of urgent care, workforce requirements, clinical pathways and interfaces between services.
• Exploring opportunities to address winter pressures, improve service delivery and develop innovative pathways.
• Working collaboratively with clinical, operations, IT, reporting, recruitment and training teams to ensure the proposed model is realistic and deliverable.

Who am I looking for?

I’m keen to speak with professionals who have:

• Significant experience in independent healthcare operational delivery, service development or service improvement.
• A strong understanding of Urgent and Emergency Care, ideally including Urgent Treatment Centres and single points of access.
• Experience developing, improving or mobilising commissioned NHS services.
• Confidence facilitating workshops and engaging senior clinical and operational stakeholders.
• The ability to challenge existing thinking constructively and turn ideas into practical solutions.
• Strong communication skills and experience producing clear outputs to support tender development.

Experience with SystmOne would be advantageous, particularly where clinical systems influence urgent care workflows and service delivery.

This would suit someone who combines genuine operational credibility with commercial awareness, innovative thinking and a pragmatic approach to service design.

The details:

• Approximately three-month interim assignment, commencing as soon as possible, ideally first week November.
• Circa £350 per day, depending on experience.
• Outside IR35.
• Three days onsite per week across two operational bases in the East Midlands, with a substantial onsite presence particularly during the first 6-8 weeks.
• Some home-working flexibility may be available by agreement. Expenses may be considered for candidates travelling from outside the area.
