Intermediate Backend Engineer, AMER

For our client, we are seeking a Intermediate Backend Engineer, AMER to join the team of a leader in the Information Technology space.

This role will focus on building and refining backend systems that support reliable, scalable product delivery across a distributed remote team.

You will partner closely with product managers and designers to translate requirements into maintainable solutions, while also collaborating with engineers through code reviews and knowledge sharing.

The position calls for strong backend craftsmanship, thoughtful use of AI in development workflows, and a balance of performance, security, and operational reliability.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $115,200 – $194,400 annually

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable backend features with minimal guidance
• Write secure and maintainable code, ensuring performance benchmarks are met
• Increase code coverage by developing and improving automated tests
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, ensuring operational reliability
• Apply AI effectively within development processes while validating its outputs
• Collaborate with product managers and designers to refine and clarify project requirements
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to team knowledge sharing

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of experience in backend engineering, delivering production applications
• Proficiency in Ruby/Rails, Go, or similar modern backend languages
• Strong grasp of backend best practices, including API design and database management
• Experience in testing and maintaining backend code, with an emphasis on performance and security
• Ability to take ownership of projects from requirements to deployment with minimal supervision
• Effective written communication skills, especially in a remote environment
• Familiarity with AI tools and how to practically apply them in development
