What they need

Civil Engineer - Land Development
Palmerston North | Up to $120K, Depending on Experience
Three Waters & Roading | Design Through to Construction
Want to work on varied civil projects where you can see the impact your work has on the local community?

We’re working with an established, employee-owned consultancy delivering land development projects throughout Manawatū and the lower North Island.

Their close-knit team brings together civil engineers, planners and surveyors, providing integrated support from early planning and consenting through to detailed design and construction monitoring.

Projects range from residential subdivisions and commercial developments to industrial sites, roading, three waters infrastructure and community spaces.

They’re now looking for a Civil Engineer to join their Civil and Planning team in Palmerston North.

This is an opportunity to gain broad project exposure and contribute across the full lifecycle of land development projects.

You’ll work alongside experienced professionals while building relationships with clients, contractors, councils, geotechnical engineers and other project stakeholders.

The team takes a practical and collaborative approach, giving you the support to further develop your technical skills, take greater ownership of projects and work towards CPEng registration.

You’ll provide civil engineering design, drafting and construction-monitoring services across a variety of projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Civil design across three waters, roading and land development projects
  • Preparing design drawings, reports and supporting documentation
  • Supporting larger and more complex projects from set-up through to completion
  • Ensuring work meets relevant New Zealand standards, codes and council requirements
  • Helping deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Undertaking construction monitoring and site inspections
  • Preparing clear and accurate inspection and progress reports
  • Liaising with clients, contractors, councils and technical consultants
  • Identifying and resolving design and construction-related issues
  • Maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Working collaboratively with the wider Civil, Planning and Land Development teams

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • A Bachelor of Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification
  • Approximately 3-5 years’ relevant civil engineering experience
  • At least three years’ civil design experience in New Zealand
  • Experience across three waters and roading projects
  • A sound understanding of the New Zealand Building Code and local authority requirements
  • Experience preparing civil designs, drawings and technical documentation
  • Exposure to construction monitoring and site inspections
  • The confidence to communicate effectively with contractors
  • Good attention to detail and practical problem-solving ability
  • Effective time management and the ability to meet project deadlines
  • A collaborative, team-focused approach

What’s On Offer?

  • Salary up to $120,000, depending on experience
  • Permanent, full-time position working 40 hours per week
  • A friendly, relaxed and supportive team culture
  • Varied projects across three waters, roading and land development
  • Professional support and ongoing training
  • Support towards CPEng registration
  • Opportunity to become a shareholder through the company’s ESOP
  • Discounted health insurance and gym membership offers
  • The lifestyle advantages of living and working in Manawatū

This is a great opportunity for a Civil Engineer with a solid New Zealand design background who is ready for greater project ownership, broader exposure and more direct involvement with clients and contractors.
