What they need

About us:

Lysaght Consultants is a leading surveying, engineering and planning firm based in the Bay of Plenty, with offices in Mount Maunganui and Hamilton. For 30 years, we've helped shape land development across the region, working across land surveying, civil engineering, planning and project management.

Our team of registered surveyors and civil engineers work collaboratively on projects ranging from cadastral surveys to large-scale subdivisions. We take pride in combining technical expertise with a genuine focus on our people, guiding clients through every stage of their land development journey with professionalism and care.

What we offer

You’ll join an established engineering team with access to experienced mentors and CPEng engineers. You’ll have the opportunity to work on varied projects, deepen your civil design experience and help shape a growing area of the business. We take work-life balance seriously and believe that a healthy body supports a healthy mind. As part of this, among other great benefits, our team members are entitled to two 90-minute lunch breaks each week, giving you time to exercise or get outdoors during the working day.

About the role:

We’re looking for an Intermediate Civil Engineer with flood modelling passion and ability to join our engineering team, based in Tauranga.

This is a civil engineering role with a flood modelling focus. It would suit someone who already has modelling experience and wants to develop it further, while continuing to work across land development and civil infrastructure projects.

You’ll contribute to projects involving flood risk, stormwater infrastructure, earthworks, roading, and other three waters work. This mix of work will give you the opportunity to strengthen your core civil engineering skills while becoming an important part of our growing flood modelling capability. We have a strong forward pipeline across flood modelling and land development, and with councils placing increasing emphasis on natural hazards and resilient development, flood modelling is becoming an increasingly important part of the work we do.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Preparing civil designs for stormwater, earthworks, roading and other three waters infrastructure for consenting, detailed design and construction.
  • Building, running and interpreting two-dimensional flood models.
  • Working with engineers, surveyors and planners to develop practical, coordinated solutions.
  • Communicating with clients, councils and other project stakeholders.

About you:

You’ll have a sound grounding in civil engineering and an interest in developing your flood modelling expertise. You don’t need to know everything from day one, but you will need to be technically capable, curious and willing to keep learning.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • At least four years’ experience in civil engineering, flood modelling or a combination of the two.
  • Competence in civil design across stormwater, earthworks, roading and general three waters infrastructure.
  • Experience using 12d civil design software.
  • Experience with one- and two-dimensional flood modelling, and the associated GIS packages. Familiarity with TUFLOW would be an advantage, although experience with other modelling packages (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, DRAINS, etc.) will also be considered.
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach to engineering problems.
  • A professional attitude and a genuine interest in developing your career.

You’ll be someone who follows through on commitments, works well with others and is comfortable asking questions when needed. A positive, can-do approach and a willingness to take on new challenges will be important.

At Lysaght we back our tribe, own what we do, aim higher and create work we’re proud to put our name to.
