What they need

Translate complex marine data into sustainable, real-world coastal defenses. At HESCO Maritime & Water, we rely on advanced numerical modelling to predict ocean behavior, design resilient coastal infrastructure, and protect shorelines against the escalating impacts of climate change. If you are a skilled coastal modeller ready to step up, lead complex technical analyses, and take ownership of high-impact marine projects, this is your opportunity. Join our international engineering consultancy and accelerate your career alongside some of the brightest minds in maritime engineering.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly capable Intermediate Coastal Modeller with 3 to 5 years of proven experience to strengthen our elite coastal engineering team. In this critical role, you will take the lead on developing, calibrating, and validating complex numerical models to simulate coastal hydrodynamics, wave climates, and sediment transport. Bridging the gap between data and design, your insights will directly inform the engineering of port facilities, breakwaters, land reclamations, and coastal protection schemes across the globe. You will work semi-independently on challenging assignments while mentoring junior staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, calibrate, validate, and execute advanced 2D and 3D numerical models for hydrodynamics, wave transformation, and storm surge.
  • Conduct comprehensive metocean studies, including wave climate analysis, joint probability analysis, and Extreme Value Analysis (EVA).
  • Assess the impacts of climate change, sea-level rise, and extreme weather events on coastal infrastructure resilience.
  • Automate data processing workflows and develop custom scripts for efficient pre- and post-processing of large metocean datasets.
  • Guide and mentor junior coastal modellers, ensuring technical rigor and quality assurance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Education: Master’s degree in Coastal Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Civil Engineering, Marine Science, or equivalent.
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of progressive, dedicated professional experience in coastal modelling and metocean analysis.
  • Domain Expertise: Demonstrated track record of independently setting up and delivering numerical modelling studies for commercial coastal or port engineering projects.
  • Software Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Delft3D / Delft3D FM, SWAN, and/or XBeach. Strong proficiency in Python or MATLAB.
