About GCS Group

GCS Group delivers underground telecom infrastructure across Alberta with a focus on quality, safety, and efficiency. Our hydrovac crews work alongside HDD and locating teams on active telecom installations, and we hold every operator to a high standard. We're currently seeking an Intermediate Hydrovac Operator who's ready to take on more responsibility and contribute at a higher level.

The Role

At this level, you're expected to operate with confidence and minimal oversight. You know your machine, you understand the risks of working around buried utilities, and you can manage the day-to-day demands of a busy construction site without being walked through every step. You'll work closely with our drill and locate crews to keep operations running smoothly and safely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently operate hydrovac units on telecom and HDD support work
  • Daylight utilities, clear bore paths, and manage excavation zones with precision
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and pre-shift inspections and address any deficiencies
  • Monitor and manage water levels, spoil disposal, and equipment performance throughout the shift
  • Coordinate actively with the HDD drill and locating teams on site
  • Complete accurate daily field reports and equipment logs
  • Support junior operators with proper technique and site awareness

Requirements

  • Valid certifications required and must be confirmed current before your start date
  • Demonstrated hydrovac operating experience in a construction or utility environment
  • Experience working on telecom, HDD, or underground utility projects is a strong asset
  • Solid understanding of safe dig practices and utility identification
  • Strong communication skills and a team-first mindset
  • Valid driver's license; Class 3 an asset

Compensation & Benefits

  • Above-average hours on long-term telecom project contracts
  • Wages commensurate with experience
  • Full company benefits
  • Annual Christmas bonus tied to individual performance
  • LOA and accommodations provided for employees traveling from 100+ km away

You've put in the time and built the skills — now bring them to a crew that will put them to good use. Apply to GCS Group and let's talk.

Required Certifications:

  • Commercial vehicle training (Hours of Service, Load Securement, Weights and Dimensions, Pre-trip inspections);
  • CSTS 2020
  • WHMIS 2015
  • Ground Disturbance Level 2 / Supervisory
  • Fall Protection
  • Valid class 1 or 3 license, must have clean drivers abstract
