What they need

Help us shape spaces that are connected by design.

Chow:Hill is looking for an Intermediate Interior Designer or Interior Architect to join our Hamilton / Kirikiriroa Studio.

We are a multidisciplinary design practice working across architecture, interiors, and urban design from our studios in Hamilton, Auckland and Christchurch. Our work is grounded in collaboration, curiosity and purposeful design — creating environments that respond to people, place and the way our clients live and work.

This is an opportunity to join our interiors team at an exciting time, working across a diverse portfolio of commercial, workplace, civic, health, education and other interior environments.

About the role

You’ll work as part of integrated architectural and interiors project teams, taking projects from design development through documentation and delivery.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys both the creative and technical sides of interior design — someone who can develop a strong design idea, communicate it clearly and follow it through into well-resolved documentation and built outcomes.

Depending on the project, your role will include:

  • Developing interior concepts, material palettes, finishes, furniture and spatial solutions.
  • Producing high-quality design presentations, visualisations and documentation.
  • Working confidently in Revit as part of integrated project models.
  • Preparing robust Building Consent and construction documentation.
  • Coordinating interior design requirements with architects and other consultants.
  • Reviewing consultant information and identifying coordination issues.
  • Participating in client and consultant meetings.
  • Communicating design thinking clearly to clients, consultants and project teams.
  • Working collaboratively with our interiors and architectural teams across all three Chow:Hill studios.

About you

We’re looking for someone with approximately 3–5 years of relevant professional experience and a strong portfolio demonstrating both design capability and technical understanding.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture or a related discipline.
  • Strong Revit capability.
  • Experience working on commercial or similarly complex interior projects.
  • Strong design, visualisation and presentation skills.
  • A good understanding of materials, finishes, detailing and interior construction.
  • The ability to produce clear, accurate documentation for consent and construction.
  • Experience coordinating with architects, consultants and contractors.
  • Confidence communicating directly with clients and consultants.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work.
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to share ideas and contribute to the wider studio.
  • The ability to manage your own workload while communicating proactively with project and team leaders.

New Zealand project experience would be advantageous, particularly familiarity with New Zealand documentation, consenting and construction processes.

Why Chow:Hill?

At Chow:Hill, design is a team effort.

We believe our best work comes from an environment where people are comfortable sharing ideas, asking questions and learning from one another. You’ll be joining a collaborative design studio where interiors are not considered in isolation, but as an integral part of the architecture and overall experience of a place.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Work on a varied portfolio of meaningful projects.
  • Collaborate directly with architects, interior designers, urban designers and other specialists.
  • Be involved across multiple stages of projects rather than being confined to one part of the process.
  • Work with colleagues across our Hamilton, Auckland and Christchurch studios.
  • Participate in structured mentoring and professional development.
  • Develop greater responsibility in design, documentation, client engagement and project coordination as your experience grows.

Chow:Hill has been creating places with meaning since 1992 and today works nationally from three studios, bringing together architecture, interiors and other design disciplines.
