Intermediate Quantity Surveyor

About the role

A newly created opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join the Christchurch team. This role keeps you in QS while opening the door to the insurance sector, project management exposure, and a team building and innovating its own tech tools. It's a role for someone with solid building knowledge who understands the key role a QS plays in a team. You'll start by taking hold of rates and pricing, then grow into supporting project managers and claims work as your confidence and needs allow.

Key responsibilities

• Keep rates database accurate, current and reflect the New Zealand market
• Review contractor quotes and compare tenders against rates and give project managers clear commercial assessments
• Give project managers timely, practical pricing advice and handle rate requests quickly
• Help out when events hit and demand rises
• Support and mentor teammates where you can
• Build project management and claims experience as capacity allows

About you

• A Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline, or equivalent building industry experience
• Some experience in quantity surveying, estimating or a similar construction role in New Zealand
• Solid building knowledge and awareness of the New Zealand construction industry and current rates, with tender and contract experience
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to build relationships with contractors, colleagues and stakeholders
• A self-driven, "get on and do it" attitude, and comfort working with ambiguity and a change environment, including when severe weather and natural disasters increase demand
• Currently based in New Zealand with legal right to work permanently in New Zealand
• Full driver's licence
• Available to attend in person interviews
