What they need
Mid-Level Full-Stack Product Engineer
Outliv is looking for a design-minded, AI-native Full-Stack Product Engineer to join our early engineering team.
This is not a role where you’ll spend your days receiving perfectly specified tickets and implementing them exactly as written. We’re building a company and product from the ground up, which means problems will sometimes be ambiguous, requirements will evolve, and the right answer won’t always be obvious.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys that.
You should be the kind of engineer who can take a problem, understand what we’re actually trying to achieve, work through the technical and product trade-offs, and turn it into something polished and useful.
You’ll work across the stack, from Angular interfaces and thoughtful product interactions to TypeScript APIs, PostgreSQL data models, integrations, infrastructure and AI-powered functionality.
A strong eye for design matters. So does clean code. So does knowing when to stop debating and ship.
What you'll work on:
Outliv is still early, so the work is broad.
You’ll spend a lot of time building new products and capabilities from scratch, but you’ll also improve, maintain and evolve systems already in production.
You might spend one day building a new workflow in Angular, another designing an API or database model, and another figuring out how an AI agent should interact with a product or internal system.
You’ll work on things like:
Building polished web experiences with Angular, TypeScript, HTML and CSS
Designing and implementing backend services with TypeScript and Node.js
Working with PostgreSQL and designing sensible data models
Building APIs, integrations and event-driven workflows
Turning designs and product ideas into excellent user experiences
Improving existing systems rather than automatically rebuilding them
Using AI agents and modern development tooling throughout the engineering lifecycle
Prototyping and evaluating new technologies when they can materially improve the product
Working directly with product, design and business stakeholders
Understanding a problem deeply enough to make good decisions even when the specification is incomplete
Taking ownership of features from idea through implementation, testing, release and refinement
Our stack:
You don't need to have used every technology we use, but you should be comfortable moving between technologies and learning quickly.
Our core stack includes:
**Frontend**
Angular
TypeScript
HTML
CSS
**Backend**
TypeScript
Node.js
APIs and service-oriented architectures
**Data**
PostgreSQL
SQL
Modern managed database platforms and tooling
**AI & engineering**
LLMs and agentic development workflows
AI coding agents and modern AI-assisted engineering tools
Automated testing, code review and delivery workflows
The exact stack will evolve. Being able to learn and adapt is more important than having memorised one framework.
Who we're looking for:
You’re probably a good fit if you:
Have solid professional software development experience and can independently deliver production-quality features
Are comfortable working across frontend and backend systems
Have strong TypeScript and web development fundamentals
Have a good visual eye and care about spacing, typography, interaction design and the small details that make software feel excellent
Write clean, understandable code without turning every problem into an architecture astronautics exercise
Can reason through ambiguous requirements instead of waiting for someone to specify every detail
Understand the difference between solving a technical task and solving the actual product problem
Are comfortable reading unfamiliar code and figuring out how systems work
Communicate clearly and professionally in English
Can explain technical decisions to both technical and non-technical people
Have a basic understanding of business and genuinely care whether what you're building creates value
Take ownership of your work and follow things through
Learn quickly and are comfortable being pushed outside your current comfort zone
AI-native engineering:
This is important to us.
We don't treat AI as autocomplete with a nicer logo.
We are actively exploring how modern AI agents, coding tools and automation can make a small engineering team dramatically more capable.
You should already be comfortable using modern AI development tools or be extremely motivated to become excellent at them.
That means understanding how to work effectively with coding agents, provide context, review generated work critically, automate repetitive engineering processes, and use AI to increase the quality and velocity of your work rather than simply generating more code.
We expect this area to evolve quickly, and we want engineers who are excited to evolve with it.
Healthcare experience:
You do **not** need to be a doctor, scientist or healthcare expert who happens to write TypeScript.
We'll teach you the domain.
What matters is being curious enough to understand the fundamentals of the problems you're working on, ask sensible questions, and appreciate that software operating in healthcare deserves careful thought.
You should be able to understand the *why* behind what you're building, not just the Jira ticket describing it.
What working at Outliv is like:
Outliv is an early-stage startup.
That means a lot of greenfield development, a lot of ownership and a lot of opportunity to influence what the company becomes.
It also means the pace can be high.
There won't always be a detailed playbook. Sometimes you'll need to investigate, make a call, build something, learn from it and improve it.
We have high expectations, but you'll also have significant autonomy.
We care about:
Ownership over hand-holding
Quality without unnecessary bureaucracy
Shipping over endless discussion
Good judgement over rigid process
Curiosity over ego
Product outcomes over lines of code
Using the best tool for the problem rather than blindly following a stack
Helping each other get better
You'll work closely with the technical lead and the broader founding/product team, with plenty of opportunity to learn quickly, take on meaningful responsibility and have a visible impact on the product.
For the right person, it should feel less like joining a software factory and more like joining the small engineering team responsible for figuring out what the factory should become.
What success looks like:
Within your first few months, we'd expect you to be able to take a meaningful product problem, work through the ambiguity, collaborate where necessary, design a sensible solution, implement it across the stack and ship something you're proud to put in front of users.
Over time, we'd expect your scope and ownership to grow with the company.
If you're a strong engineer who cares about product, design and craft, enjoys moving quickly, and sees AI as an opportunity to fundamentally rethink how software gets built, we'd love to talk.
Other offers great for you!
