What they need
[What the role is]
The intern will work within Tote Board's Gaming Research (GR) team to support GR's collaboration with the Singapore Police Force (SPF) in countering illegal gambling websites targeting Singapore. The intern will explore how an existing manual process can be automated using scripting and/or AI tools, so that GR can more efficiently support SPF's enforcement efforts against illegal gambling operators.
[What you will be working on]
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a script or tool that takes a list of website URLs and automatically navigates from each site's main page to its registration or login page.
- Capture and organise screenshots of the relevant pages (main page and registration/login page) in a consistent, usable format.
- Test the solution across a range of different website structures and refine it to handle variations in site design.
- Document the methodology and limitations of the solution, including cases requiring manual review.
- Hand over the completed script/tool, along with documentation, at the end of the attachment.
Learning Outcomes
The intern will gain experience in:
- Applying web automation and scripting skills to a real-world government use case with practical impact.
- Exposure to how public agencies collaborate with the Singapore Police Force to counter illegal gambling.
- Translating a manual, resource-intensive process into a scalable, automated solution.
- Problem-solving in handling diverse and inconsistent website structures.
- Understanding the operational considerations involved in supporting law enforcement processes.
[What we are looking for]
Requirements

- Currently pursuing a diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Working knowledge of scripting (e.g. Python) and web automation tools (e.g. Selenium, Playwright, or similar).
- Familiarity with AI tools for pattern recognition or task automation is an advantage.
- Ability to work independently and troubleshoot across varied website structures.
- Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to testing.
Applications are open exclusively to students aged 18 and above as the role involves access to and handling of content from illegal gambling websites. Please indicate your available start and end dates in your CV.
