Job Summary Dominion Energy is seeking a System Protection Intern for Summer 2027 at Surry Nuclear Power Station in Surry, VA. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world experience in the field of power generation, electric transmission and distribution. Interns will work closely with System Protection Technicians to develop a foundational understanding of substation electrical equipment, high-voltage diagnostic testing, protective relays, and control circuit troubleshooting.

This role is ideal for students interested in fieldwork and technical operations, with the potential for full-time employment upon successful completion of the internship and alignment with Dominion Energy’s culture and career pathways.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and interpret electrical design drawings.
• Assist with infrared scans and basic instrument checkout and repair.
• Participate in high-voltage diagnostic testing and relay testing.
• Support functional testing of protection systems and control circuits.
• Shadow System Protection Technicians to gain insight into substation equipment and field operations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

• Strong problem-solving skills with mechanical and/or electrical equipment and control circuits.

• Experience with Microsoft Office applications.

• Solid math, technical, and mechanical aptitude.

• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Good time management and organizational skills.

• Must meet physical requirements including:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

• Manual dexterity, color vision, hearing, climbing, stooping, standing, and bending.

Education Requirements

• Must be enrolled at a 2-year or 4-year school pursuing a Bachelors or Associate's Technology degree in the preferred areas of:

• Electrical & Electronic Engineering Technology

• Mechanical Engineering Technology

• Electromechanical Technology

• Electronics Technology

• Instrumentation Technology

• Mechatronic Technology

• Other comparable disciplines may be substituted for the disciplines listed above;

• Must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher.

• Must have an anticipated graduation date of Fall 2027 or later.

• Due to weight limits on equipment, weight restriction of 290 pounds applies.

Hourly Rate What You'll Get $22.00 - $28.00
