Internal Audit Manager - CA (Kampala, Uganda)

Baker Tilly Hem LLP, a Certified Public Accounting (CPA) firm in Kampala, Uganda and an independent member of Baker Tilly International, is hiring a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) as Manager Internal Audit. This is an overseas, on-site role based in Kampala, Uganda. Work permit and immigration clearance, medical insurance and transportation are arranged and paid for by the firm.

Role split: approximately 75% internal audit and 25% external / statutory audit and other audit-related assignments. Client portfolio includes international NGOs, development partners and private companies across East Africa.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and execute risk-based internal audit assignments in line with the approved audit plan and scope
• Document business processes through walkthroughs, process notes and risk and control matrices (RCM)
• Test design and operating effectiveness of internal controls; perform substantive testing
• Identify control weaknesses, process gaps, revenue leakage and non-compliance with policy and statute
• Draft internal audit reports covering observation, risk rating, root cause, implication and recommendation
• Discuss findings with process owners and management; agree management action plans; follow up on prior observations
• Review and draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies and delegation of authority matrices
• Carry out physical verification of inventory and fixed assets and reconcile to the books of account
• Support statutory / external audits under International Standards on Auditing (ISA) and IFRS — vouching, ledger scrutiny, analytical review, lead schedules and working papers
• Support donor grant expenditure verification and special-purpose audit assignments

Candidate Requirements

• Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) — freshly qualified candidates with internal audit exposure during articleship will be considered
• 1 – 3 years of experience in internal audit, risk advisory, process audit or statutory audit
• Working knowledge of internal control frameworks, risk-based audit methodology, IFRS and ISA
• Strong report writing, analytical skills and attention to detail
• Advanced MS Excel; working knowledge of Tally or any ERP is preferred
• Valid passport and willingness to relocate to Kampala, Uganda
