Internal Audit Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Internal Audit Manager to join ECLOF Philippines Microfinance, Inc. in Quezon City, Metro Manila. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in safeguarding the organisation's assets, ensuring operational efficiency, and maintaining robust internal controls across our microfinance operations. As Internal Audit Manager, you will provide strategic oversight of the internal audit function, ensuring comprehensive risk assessment and compliance with applicable regulations and policies. This position is integral to supporting the management team in achieving organisational objectives whilst maintaining the highest standards of governance and integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive annual internal audit plan based on risk assessment and organisational priorities
• Conduct regular internal audits across various operational areas including lending operations, treasury management, procurement, and financial reporting processes
• Review and evaluate the effectiveness of internal control systems, identifying gaps and recommending improvements to strengthen operational efficiency and compliance
• Assess compliance with relevant regulations, including those governing microfinance institutions, banking rules, and anti-money laundering requirements
• Prepare detailed audit reports documenting findings, observations, and recommendations with clear action plans for remediation
• Follow up on management's implementation of audit recommendations and report on the status of corrective actions
• Lead and supervise internal audit team members, providing coaching, guidance, and professional development opportunities
• Collaborate with external auditors to ensure alignment between internal and external audit activities and avoid duplication of efforts
• Maintain independence and objectivity in all audit activities, reporting directly to senior management and the Board's audit committee
• Stay abreast of industry best practices, emerging risks, and regulatory developments relevant to the microfinance sector

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; professional accounting qualifications (CPA, CIA, or equivalent) are highly preferred
• Minimum of 5-7 years' experience in internal audit, preferably within the financial services, banking, or microfinance sector
• Proven experience in developing and executing audit plans, conducting risk-based audits, and evaluating internal control systems
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements applicable to microfinance operations
• Experience with audit and risk management tools and software; proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is essential
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify risks, assess control effectiveness, and develop practical recommendations
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex audit findings clearly to management and the Board
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities and experience managing and developing audit team members
• High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality and independence
• Knowledge of anti-money laundering regulations, fraud detection, and compliance frameworks is advantageous
• Ability to work independently, prioritise multiple tasks, and meet deadlines whilst maintaining attention to detail
