Title: Internal Control Manager
Location: Paris, France
About the Client
Our client, a well-established bank based in Paris, is looking for an experienced Internal Control Manager to join its Second Line of Defence. You will lead the bank’s permanent control programme, testing how well key processes are controlled and making sure the business meets French and European regulatory requirements. You will help build a strong control culture and give senior management a clear view of risk across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver the annual internal control plan, mapping processes end to end and testing Level 2 controls across all business and support areas
- Maintain the risk and control register and set testing frequency based on risk
- Identify control gaps, carry out root-cause analysis, and agree remediation plans with business owners through to closure
- Review new and updated policies, procedures, products, and systems before launch, assessing inherent risk and the strength of controls
- Monitor prudential risk management and regulatory reporting, including periodic reviews of reporting data flows, against ACPR and EU requirements
- Produce assignment reports, periodic breach reporting, and the annual internal control report for senior management and the Board
- Act as a key contact for regulators and auditors, coordinating inspections and tracking recommendations to resolution
- Strengthen data protection controls and deliver internal control awareness training across the organisation
Key Requirements
- Master’s degree in Banking, Finance, Audit, Business, Engineering, or a related field
- 5–7 years in internal control, internal audit, or compliance, ideally at a French or European bank, or in consulting with finance and control experience
- Solid knowledge of the French and European banking regulatory framework, including prudential risk
- Strong grasp of control testing, risk assessment methods, and the Three Lines of Defence model
- Good working knowledge of bank accounting, banking products, and core banking IT systems
- Familiarity with GDPR and data protection requirements
- Fluent in French and English, with strong report-writing skills for senior audiences
- Organised and self-driven, with the confidence to challenge and build relationships at all levels
