Inventory Auditor

Department: Warehouse / Operations
Job Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Warehouse Manager / Operations Manager

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Inventory Auditor to help maintain the accuracy and integrity of our warehouse inventory. This position will be responsible for auditing inventory, identifying discrepancies, researching the cause of errors, and working with warehouse and operations teams to resolve issues.

The ideal candidate is someone who is comfortable working with technology, enjoys troubleshooting problems, and can think critically when information doesn't match. This role requires someone who can investigate an issue rather than simply report it and who is willing to work with warehouse staff to find the root cause and correct the problem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular physical and system-based inventory audits.
  • Compare physical inventory against warehouse management system records.
  • Research and resolve inventory discrepancies, missing items, incorrect locations, and quantity differences.
  • Investigate inventory transactions to determine where and how an error occurred.
  • Verify inbound and outbound inventory for accuracy.
  • Review warehouse tickets, transfer records, pull tickets, and other documentation.
  • Identify recurring inventory errors and communicate trends to management.
  • Work with warehouse personnel to correct inventory and process issues.
  • Use warehouse technology, scanners, inventory software, computers, and other systems to track and verify inventory.
  • Troubleshoot technology or system-related issues affecting inventory accuracy.
  • Escalate system problems when necessary and work with management or technical support to find solutions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of audits, discrepancies, corrections, and unresolved issues.
  • Assist with improving inventory control procedures and warehouse processes.
  • Perform spot checks of high-value, frequently moved, or problem inventory.
  • Ensure inventory is properly labeled, located, transferred, and accounted for.
  • Help train warehouse personnel on proper inventory procedures when needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have excellent attention to detail.
  • Be comfortable working with computers and warehouse technology.
  • Be a strong problem solver and troubleshooter.
  • Be able to investigate discrepancies and determine their likely cause.
  • Be comfortable learning new software and systems.
  • Have strong organizational and follow-through skills.
  • Be able to work independently while also communicating effectively with a warehouse team.
  • Be willing to ask questions and dig into an issue until it is resolved.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be able to identify patterns and recurring problems.
  • Be dependable, proactive, and accountable.
  • Be comfortable working in a warehouse environment and performing physical inventory checks.

Technology & Problem-Solving Skills

This position is particularly well suited for someone who enjoys figuring out how things work and solving technology-related problems.

The Inventory Auditor may be expected to:

  • Troubleshoot scanner and barcode issues.
  • Identify discrepancies between multiple systems or records.
  • Research inventory history and transaction records.
  • Determine whether an issue is caused by user error, process failure, data entry, or system functionality.
  • Learn and navigate inventory management software.
  • Assist employees when they encounter problems with warehouse technology.
  • Communicate technical issues clearly to management or IT support.
  • Develop practical solutions when technology or system processes aren't working as expected.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Basic to strong computer skills.
  • Ability to learn inventory management and warehouse software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple issues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with warehouse personnel and management.

Preferred:

  • Previous warehouse, inventory, logistics, auditing, or operations experience.
  • Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS).
  • Experience with barcode scanners or inventory tracking systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting computers, scanners, software, or other technology.
  • Experience performing inventory counts or reconciliations.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office/Excel or similar software.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods while conducting warehouse audits.
  • Ability to inspect inventory throughout the warehouse.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move items as necessary to verify inventory.
  • Ability to safely work around warehouse equipment and personnel.

Why Join Us?

This is an important position within our warehouse operation. The Inventory Auditor will play a key role in preventing inventory errors, identifying process problems, and improving overall warehouse accuracy and efficiency.

If you're the type of person who sees a problem and thinks "let me figure out why this happened", rather than simply reporting that something is wrong, we'd like to hear from you.
