What they need

Hatch on Maine — Inventory Specialist

Inventory Specialist — Hatch on Maine, Brunswick, ME

Part-time · Start Date: Immediate

Hatch on Maine is a small, curated boutique in downtown Brunswick, and we're looking for an organized, tech-comfortable inventory specialist to run the operational side of the shop. You'll own the flow of product from the moment it arrives to the moment it's on the shelf: receiving, tagging, pricing, put-away, and keeping our Toast system accurate.

This role is for someone with retail experience who understands that the back room exists to serve the sales floor. You'll know where a new arrival should go, how it should be priced and presented, and what's running low before it's gone. If you like systems, notice details, and have already figured out how AI tools can make your work faster, we'd love to hear from you.

To apply, send a resume and a few sentences about a system or process you've improved to [email protected].

Position details

  • Position: Inventory Specialist
  • Reports to: Owner
  • Schedule: Part-time, 20+ hours per week
  • Location: Hatch on Maine, Brunswick, ME

About the role

The store owner leads buying, merchandising, and the creative direction of the store. The role we are hiring for owns operations: making sure every product that comes through the door is received correctly, priced right, tagged, put away, and accurately reflected in our point-of-sale system.

This person needs to understand the sales floor. Receiving and inventory decisions should reflect how products sell, where customers find them, and what the floor needs to look full and shoppable.

ResponsibilitiesReceiving and inventory

  • Receive all incoming wholesale shipments (many through Faire) and check them against purchase orders
  • Flag and resolve shortages, damages, and vendor discrepancies
  • Tag and price all merchandise according to store pricing guidelines
  • Put away inventory with the sales floor in mind: restock displays, keep backstock organized and labeled, and get new arrivals out quickly
  • Watch sell-through on the floor and tell the owner what's moving, what's stalling, and what needs to be reordered
  • Run regular inventory counts and keep on-hand quantities accurate

Toast POS and systems

  • Serve as the store's main point person for Toast: creating and updating products, variants, prices, and inventory
  • Keep the product catalog clean and consistent (naming, categories, colors and sizes)
  • Pull basic sales and inventory reports to help the owner with buying decisions
  • Find and put in place tools, including AI tools, that save time or reduce errors

Store operations

  • Keep the stockroom, back office, and receiving area neat and organized
  • Communicate clearly with the owner about inventory status, issues, and ideas
  • [Help on the sales floor, open and close the store, and support customer service as needed]

What we're looking for

  • Retail experience required, ideally in a boutique or specialty shop, with an understanding of how the sales floor and stockroom work together
  • Very comfortable with computers; picks up new software quickly and can troubleshoot without hand-holding
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) in work or daily life
  • A self-starter who sees what needs doing and does it
  • Clear, friendly communicator, in person and in writing
  • Neat and highly organized, with strong attention to detail
  • Reliable and able to lift boxes and stand for extended periods

Nice to have

  • Experience with Toast, Lightspeed, Shopify, Square, or another POS system
  • Spreadsheet skills (Excel or Google Sheets)
  • Familiarity with Faire or other wholesale ordering platforms
  • Visual merchandising or display experience

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 – 35.0 per week

Work Location: In person
