Location: Kenner, Louisiana
Position: Full-Time | On-Site
Industry: Distribution & Service
Position Overview
An established distribution and service company is seeking an experienced, highly organized Inventory Control Manager to take ownership of inventory accuracy, ERP inventory transactions, and inventory control procedures within our warehouse operation.
This is a hands-on position for someone who understands how inventory moves through a distribution business and recognizes the importance of maintaining accurate inventory records.
The Inventory Control Manager will work closely with our Warehouse Supervisor, purchasing, accounting, sales, and service personnel to ensure inventory is properly received, recorded, stored, transferred, and issued.
We are looking for an experienced inventory professional who can identify problems, investigate discrepancies, improve procedures, and maintain accurate inventory records.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management & Accuracy
- Maintain accurate inventory quantities and records within the company's ERP system.
- Monitor and control inventory movement, including receiving, shipping, transfers, returns, and adjustments.
- Investigate inventory shortages, overages, negative quantities, and discrepancies.
- Develop and maintain a structured cycle-count program.
- Perform physical inventory counts and reconcile differences with ERP records.
- Maintain accurate item numbers, product descriptions, units of measure, and inventory classifications.
- Identify and correct inventory inaccuracies before they become recurring problems.
ERP System & Data Management
- Manage and verify daily inventory transactions within the ERP system.
- Ensure all inventory receipts, issues, transfers, and adjustments are entered accurately and promptly.
- Review inventory transactions for completeness and accuracy.
- Maintain accurate inventory bin locations and item records.
- Generate and analyze inventory reports to identify discrepancies and opportunities for improvement.
- Establish procedures for inventory adjustments and transaction corrections.
Warehouse Inventory Control
- Work alongside the Warehouse Supervisor to ensure proper inventory procedures are followed.
- Verify that incoming shipments are accurately received and recorded.
- Ensure inventory pulled for customer orders and service work is properly accounted for.
- Maintain accurate bin locations, product labeling, and inventory identification.
- Identify misplaced, incorrectly labeled, or unaccounted-for inventory.
- Help improve receiving, stocking, picking, returns, and inventory transfer procedures.
- Coordinate with warehouse and office personnel to resolve inventory issues.
Process Improvement & Accountability
- Identify weaknesses in inventory procedures and recommend practical solutions.
- Develop and implement inventory controls to reduce errors and losses.
- Investigate the root causes of inventory discrepancies rather than simply adjusting quantities.
- Monitor inventory accuracy and report recurring issues to management.
- Establish consistent procedures for accurate inventory tracking.
- Help ensure warehouse personnel understand and follow inventory-control requirements.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of inventory control or inventory management experience, preferably in a distribution or warehouse environment.
- Proven experience working with an ERP inventory management system.
- Strong understanding of receiving, shipping, inventory transfers, adjustments, and cycle counting.
- Experience researching and resolving inventory discrepancies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, sorting, filtering, and inventory reporting.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate with warehouse and office personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Acumatica, SAP, NetSuite, Epicor, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar ERP systems.
- Inventory control experience in distribution, industrial supply, equipment, or parts-related operations.
- Experience developing and managing cycle-count programs.
- Familiarity with barcode scanning, bin-location management, and warehouse inventory systems.
- Experience improving inventory accuracy and implementing inventory-control procedures.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Takes ownership of inventory accuracy and accountability.
- Understands how ERP transactions affect inventory records.
- Can identify inventory problems and determine their root causes.
- Is comfortable working both at a computer and on the warehouse floor.
- Is highly organized, dependable, and detail-oriented.
- Takes initiative and follows problems through to resolution.
- Can develop practical procedures and ensure they are consistently followed.
- Works well with warehouse employees, supervisors, and office personnel.
