What they need
Investment Analyst
Cape Town, South Africa | Venture Capital | Fintech & Financial Infrastructure
If you’re a newly qualified CA(SA) and want to become an investor — this is where you start.
Most newly qualified CA(SA) roles ask you to report on what has already happened. This one asks you to work out what could happen next.
The Opportunity
Our client is looking for an exceptional newly qualified CA(SA) to join the business as a junior investor and develop into a full investing role over the next two to three years.
The business has South African leadership and offices in Cape Town and London. It is a small, agile investment business operating within a wider group of private equity-backed companies, with a strong learning and high-performance culture.
You’ll start as a generalist, learning how to find opportunities, understand businesses and markets, assess management teams and ultimately form an investment view.
As you prove yourself, you’ll take on increasing responsibility across the investment process.
Reporting directly to the Managing Partner, you’ll get significant exposure from day one and the opportunity to learn how professional investors actually think.
This isn’t a role where you simply analyse numbers.
You’ll be expected to understand what the numbers are telling you, what makes a business interesting, where the opportunity lies — and whether it is worth pursuing.
Why This Role Stands Out
- A genuine pathway from junior investor to a full investing role
- Direct exposure to and mentoring from the Managing Partner
- Exposure to businesses, founders, investors, funding rounds and transactions
- The opportunity to develop real commercial and investment judgement
- Work across venture capital, technology, fintech and financial infrastructure
- Use data, AI and automation to make investment research faster and more rigorous
- Increasing responsibility as your judgement and capability develop
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll work across the investment process, including:
- Finding and tracking interesting companies, funding rounds and emerging opportunities
- Mapping sectors and identifying opportunities before they become obvious
- Researching businesses, markets, competitors and management teams
- Speaking with founders and preparing initial assessments of opportunities
- Analysing financial information and building models
- Writing clear, concise investment notes — with a view, not just the numbers
- Maintaining the investment pipeline and CRM
- Screening prospective investors and preparing briefing notes for the Managing Partner’s meetings and trips
- Building internal decks, analysis and reporting
- Using data, AI tools and automation to improve the way the firm researches, screens and evaluates opportunities
Who We’re Looking For
- Newly qualified CA(SA) or completing articles by the end of 2026
- Trained at a well-regarded, established accounting firm
- A standout academic record — this might include Dean’s Merit List, class prizes, Top 10 board exam results, distinctions or other evidence of exceptional academic performance
- Able to look beyond a set of accounts, understand the underlying business and form a view quickly
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Confident communicating with founders, executives and senior investors
- Based in Cape Town, with the right to work in South Africa
What Will Set You Apart
We’ll be particularly interested in people who can demonstrate:
- Strong technology skills — someone comfortable using data, code, AI tools and automation, rather than relying solely on spreadsheets
- Exposure to financial services, corporate finance, transactions or a relevant secondment
- A genuine interest in venture capital, technology, fintech or financial infrastructure
- Evidence that your interest in investing goes beyond simply wanting to leave audit
The Person
Qualifications will get you into the conversation. How you think will determine whether you get the job.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Ambitious — you genuinely want to build a career as an investor
- Commercial — you naturally want to understand how and why businesses make money
- Fast — you close loops quickly and don’t need to be chased
- Curious — you read widely, have opinions and ask intelligent questions
- Exact — you notice the detail and spot errors others miss
- Self-directed — you’re comfortable operating in a small, entrepreneurial team
- Resilient — you’re prepared to earn responsibility rather than expect it on day one
You don't need to arrive knowing how to be an investor.
You do need to have the raw ability, curiosity and ambition to become one.
The aim is simple: join as a junior investor, prove yourself, and progressively take ownership of more of the investment process over the next two to three years.
If you’re a newly qualified CA(SA) and have ever wondered whether your future might be on the investor side of the table, we’d like to hear from you
Other offers great for you!
